Going to be interesting to see what impact her death has on the entire shit show that is Israel Palestine. Essentially she was a renowned journalist who was highly critical of Israel's actions over the last two decades and AJ have eye witness accounts that she was shot in the head by Israel soldiers amongst a group of journalists all wearing 'press' jackets. Israel obviously blame Palestinian forces but, although AJ obviously have a vested interest, in addition to the eye witness they've shown that for it to be the Palestinians they would have needed skills like James McAvoy in Wanted to have done it. AJ - analysis of shootingWith her having a US citizenship there also seems some pushback on the usual pussyfooting about the subject: Beth Miller, the political director of Jewish Voice for Peace, slammed the New York Times for a headline that said Abu Akleh “dies at 51”, without mentioning the cause of her death....
...Referencing the same headline, Bassam Khawaja, the co-director of NYU Law’s Human Rights and Privatization Project, tweeted: “‘Dies at 51’ is a really strange way to say a journalist was shot in the head.”
“Shireen Abu Akleh was shot and killed by an Israeli sniper while reporting on an Israeli military raid of a refugee camp,” she tweeted.... ...The New York Times also released a correction for “misstating” Al Jazeera’s statement on Abu Akleh’s killing, after initially reporting incorrectly that Al Jazeera had said Abu Akleh was killed in “clashes”.[/i] linkBeeb are reporting that Palestine are taking it to the ICC and, although they've been shy of actually naming Israel, US congress seems to be making noises about an idependent investigation rather than Israel having another 'ooops sorry mistake bombing those kids on the beach twice' type investigation. “Restrictions on aid may be necessary if human rights and universally acceptable norms can’t be followed,” US Congress [/a] WIth all of the above maybe Israel would chill the fuck out for a bit - nope: Over 4000 homes agreed in the West BankBe interesting to see if this is some sort of turning point or if it'll revert back to Palastine shooting a few rockets off in protest against demolitions in the area that is then a pretext for further Israel incursion. Hope it's the prior but suspect it will be the later. What a shit show the world is in.

[/quote] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The head of the medicine department at al-Najah University in Nablus confirmed that Abu Akleh was shot in the head. He said that her body was transferred for an autopsy based on an order from the public prosecution.www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/5/11/shireen-abu-akleh-israeli-forces-kill-al-jazeera-journalist"We hold the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for her killing and they will not be able to conceal the truth with this crime," he said.
He added that the PA had rejected an Israeli offer of a joint investigation "because we don't trust them" and that it would "go immediately to the International Criminal Court in order to track down the criminals". www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-61419699Within a half hour of Abu Akleh’s killing, the Israeli state PR machine went to work on a deflection strategy. Israeli journalist Barak Ravid revealed in a Hebrew report on Walla! website that “there was an urgent consultation of the National Hasbara (PR) Headquarters together with representatives of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Foreign Ministry and the Israeli Defense Forces. They decided that the main goal was to try and fend off the narrative that was emerging in the international media, according to which Abu Akleh was killed by Israeli fire.” (The English version of Ravid’s report on the Axios website did not include this information.) So Israel used a short video that was filmed that morning by Palestinian militants in a residential area, in which the men were heard saying that they had shot a soldier. Bennett posted the video and claimed that, since no Israeli soldier was injured in Jenin that day, the footage was evidence that the militants had mistaken Abu Akleh, in her helmet and body armor, for a combatant. But then Al Jazeera posted footage showing Abu Akleh face down on the ground in a less built-up area and her colleagues trying helplessly to reach her as bullets continued to fly. The word PRESS was visible in large letters on her protective gear. “We saw the soldiers in the area and there were no Palestinians there,” said producer Ali Samudi, who was also shot. The soldiers were about 150 meters away….I did not see who was shooting, but I see [sic] from where the bullets coming. They coming from the area where the soldiers. There were no fighters in the area.” Two hours later a local researcher for the Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem filmed a video geolocating the clip of the Palestinian gunmen in the Jenin refugee camp, hundreds of yards and several turns away from the spot where Abu Akleh was killed.time.com/6176045/israel-response-shireen-abu-akleh-killing/Suppose it boils down to if you choose to trust the eyes of the surviving witnesses, including the bloke shot in the back, or the mouths of the Israel government.

For the sake of balance though a couple of the blokes in sandals and t-shirts might have chucked some stones at the blokes in full riot gear.
