Eddie Howe come on down , will be a few thinking if only i knew that before I joined the Southgate out bandwagon Would be massively underwhelming..... He gets a way out of Newcastle, they don't have to sack him, they get a shiny née foreign manager and we get a clean cut Englishman. Between him and Potter I'd say.

Good and honourable decision by Southgate to step down for all concerned. He’s built a great platform for the next manager to make those next steps, which his innate conservatism just couldn’t take.
He will be thought of much better in hindsight. I found him frustratingly passive at times but he was and still is one of the good guys.
Let’s hope the FA don’t f**k up the legacy he’s left us with in term of stability, togetherness and reaching the top table on the international scene.

The most successful England manager since most people were born resigns because people can't accept that we haven't got as good a team that people think we have. Take Bellingham, Saka and Kane out of that team and we're bang average. Oh well it was good while it lasted

Start the discussion with Pep and Klopp please. Keep Lampard and co well away from it. Like me reaching out to Margot Robbie and Scarlett Johansson first before deciding who to take to the Red Lion tonight.

FA float the story they want him for 2 years and he gets to resign honourably.

Both won *uck all and don't deserve the job No. But they are English and a bulk of public opinion seem to want an Englishman. Carsley, who has actually won something, presumably was being groomed for the job and, therefore, should get it. However, after the McClaren debacle, I doubt whether the blazers have got the balls to follow their own strategy.

Which is why I don’t think we will ever be winners like this. There are no English winners that can lead the team where it counts. English football as a whole is not where it is anymore, I don’t think we have what it takes to drive from within

What a load of bollocks. The women's game has never been higher and they aren't managed by an English manager.

I don't mind if they go for a foreign manager but ideally one who has experience of English football. Klopp would be a great choice but probably wouldn't take it. Pochettino might be a good option as well. The problem if they want an Englishman is that there isn't anyone who would get universal approval. I don't think either Howe or Potter have enough experience on the international stage. Gerrard does at least have experience as a player and has won something, albeit only the SPL. Carsley could also be an option to step up. It won't be an easy choice though for whoever has to make it.

Howe and Potter not for me. Neither achieved anything really. We should be begging Klopp to look at job. Not sure many would agree, but Mourinho might be a good choice. Serial winner.

The problem with the unproven English managers is that they are going to get absolutely bugger all leeway. Fans expectations are sky high and probably at unrealistic levels.

Especially with the talent on the bench!! The mind boggles! It cost us!!!
