A train station next to the ground is good in theory, but who would actually use it? I normally travel to games by train. It’s a short walk into stoke, a quick pint in the Kingsway and then the shuttle bus to the game. Even if there were 2 trains per hour - which is highly unlikely - I still think I’d prefer to get the shuttle bus rather than wait for a train, as I’d have to change. I can’t see how anyone who lives locally would use a train to get to the ground. Away fans maybe but they get their own shuttle bus. It would be much better to invest in improving bus services and the aspirational tram. Improving lighting on the canal could also help as it’s not that far to walk from the station along the canal, albeit not no pleasant when it’s dark. In the highly improbable event there is a train station at the ground if the train went from Kidgsrove to Longton & back I think lots would use it as discussed previously it's a complete non starter anyway The closest you could get on the Longton line would be where Fenton station used to stand, under Station Bridge Road in Heron Cross. That road couldn't handle any extra traffic or footfall - very unusual layout because of where the station was.

Do we know what the 5 year plan is yet and the new extra costing. Is it all still a secret for some reason? Not sure it’s been mentioned but one of the things we are working on is a projection system that allows images and footage to be played on the pitch. It should be good for visual effects. Apparently only Man City have the same system at the minute, if anybody has seen that? Fucking brilliant. Watching replays of a spawny Rotherham winner will be amazing.

Not that I think she's involved but it's in her ball park (pun intended).

If going by how long it took to get credit card readers in, should have the projection system in place by 2523.

This is great news.
And why I ultimately wish they’d get their act together with the playing side of things because stuff like this is amazing.
What also makes me smile is that if it was suggested on here that the training ground wasn’t good enough and fit for purpose, could you imagine the response? Yet speak to anyone and they will tell you it’s ok/good but not a patch on many others.
So it’s good to see them acknowledging that and making a really outstanding positive decision.

Yep, nothing fundamentally different between building a construction project and building a football team. Perhaps Smith should be handed the reigns! Start with the foundations...

Yep, nothing fundamentally different between building a construction project and building a football team. Perhaps Smith should be handed the reigns! Start with the foundations... The processes are similar, and the delegation routes are virtually the same. As a civil engineer, like Smith is, you don't design the building yourself. You have a vision and an architect designs your ideas into reality. Like a good Technical Director designs an owners plans on how the football side of the business should run. As a civil engineer you don't build it or maintain it yourself, you hire people that can work with your architect. A bit like hiring a coach and coaching team and a sport science team, to build a football team guided by the Technical Director and looked after and maintained by the coaching and Sport Science team. It's a huge frustration because as owners they have the cash to go and get the very best around in all key positions, prime fillet steak if you like. All they seem happy with on the football side is Pork Chops.

I fear I might be whooshed with this one but.. Didn't he oversee Delilah's being done up and then the opening being delayed by about 4 months?

Yes like most projects around that time were delayed coming out of COVID. The new corner was delivered on time despite the huge issue of the disappearing foundations that were supposedly inserted when the stadium was built on Jez Moxey's watch.

Every new player interview states, as well as being a big club, that the training ground is the main thing that attracted them to the project

Any news on the souvenir stand to sell foam fingers?
I think it would improve the mood and look great on a match day, loads of fans wearing them. Have seen some wearing one on each hand at NFL games and looks brilliant.

Does that make me the family man equivalent of a football chairman who appoints managers on the advice of a pissed bloke in the pub that watches lower league matches on the TV? "I've taken our son out of school and signed him up as a chimney sweep. What's all the fuss about?"
