Given its at most one train every 30 minutes, it might still be quicker to walk.
And of course, it's because of the housing that it's been built. Government funding of these things is based on expected stamp duty returns. E.g. a recent rail extension in Barking cost £300m but it should break even in 5 years with 25000 new homes.
There will never be a station on the mainline for our ground. There is no financial case for it at all.

We should just move wedgewood station and put it by marcrofts. Save a few quid in the process. It could be akin to the old ramsline stop near the baseball ground. Mind you it was only used 4 times. 🙄

Can't be arsed to sift through 11 pages of this thread. Have we got the blueprint done for the new station yet, and will it be linked up directly to the hovercraft landing site on the far end of the stadium?

All the new office blocks built there, a new housing estate that looks like New England, a water sports park etc will have helped, rather than a few car showrooms and a load of warehouses. the station is still a 25 minute walk to the ground as well Quite a bit less, there is some footpaths Google doesn't pick up.

Isn't it time to move on from the station? Stoke's ground location and everything around it is a million miles away from Reading's. Green Park the business park close to their ground has around 7000 people working there many of which will use the stadium on a daily basis. That's in addition to all the housing close by. If the surrounding areas were occupied by warehousing and car showrooms employing far less people many of which arrive and leave work when the trains aren't running as they're shift workers then I suspect that they wouldn't be building a new station.

I was fortunate enough to spend some time at the Stade de Nice last summer. It is slightly larger (about 5,000 more capacity) but it has been wrapped in the sort of material used for the O2 arena.
It makes for a most eye catching arena and one I think we could replicate with a little imagination and investment.

The train station does seem pie in the sky, but better transport links would likely attract businesses.

It would need to be a big lorry though.

The O2 Arena (still referred to some locals including myself as The Dome), the architecture and engineering is stunning but it isn't wrapped in anything, that's what it is. A stadium built like the Dome would be unreal but unfortunately that it will ever happen because it won't look like a Football Ground, and football is inherently conservative.

We need investment into a method to prevent the flood of people leaving on the stroke of 72minutes when the away team score their inevitable winning goal.

A station by the ground would be nice but yeah 'would be nice'. There is no financial case for it at all, we are having multi-billion pound high speed projects curtailed or pushed back because of cost (wrongly, but that's another debate). The city is having actually far more important bus routes being cut,

A train station next to the ground is good in theory, but who would actually use it? I normally travel to games by train. It’s a short walk into stoke, a quick pint in the Kingsway and then the shuttle bus to the game. Even if there were 2 trains per hour - which is highly unlikely - I still think I’d prefer to get the shuttle bus rather than wait for a train, as I’d have to change. I can’t see how anyone who lives locally would use a train to get to the ground. Away fans maybe but they get their own shuttle bus. It would be much better to invest in improving bus services and the aspirational tram. Improving lighting on the canal could also help as it’s not that far to walk from the station along the canal, albeit not no pleasant when it’s dark.

In the highly improbable event there is a train station at the ground if the train went from Kidgsrove to Longton & back I think lots would use it as discussed previously it's a complete non starter anyway

Do we know what the 5 year plan is yet and the new extra costing. Is it all still a secret for some reason?

Do we know what the 5 year plan is yet and the new extra costing. Is it all still a secret for some reason? Not sure it’s been mentioned but one of the things we are working on is a projection system that allows images and footage to be played on the pitch. It should be good for visual effects. Apparently only Man City have the same system at the minute, if anybody has seen that?
