Probably their last decent album before they disappeared irretrievably up their own arses.

Probably their last decent album before they disappeared irretrievably up their own arses. Bono is just an odious creature, full of his own self importance. Shame really cus he’s a decent vocalist

The fact that U2 and Coldplay even exist and are as successful as they are should act as a canary in a coal mine regarding the state society is in and its coming collapse.

Or did, out BlackRock way in Dublin. no idea if still there. Talking 30 years ago. He used to frequent same watering hole with his wife. His wife was the pain in the arse...Mrs Bono I think her name is. Weren't big in UK at the time

Cracking album which i’ve listened to many times. Not one weak tune. I think my favourite is Ultra Violet. Both U2 and Coldplay for all there pretentiousness are still the shining lights of popular music compared to that modern trash called grime and drill. I still haven’t got over how bad that Aitch was at the NFL HT show.

Fantastic album, to think it got followed up by Zooropa and the even worse Pop. Their highlight in my opinion.

Probably their last decent album before they disappeared irretrievably up their own arses. I actually gave up on U2 at the Etihad stadium back in 2005 or thereabouts. Bono was 20 mins into a lecture and i thought hang on i've paid good money to come and listen to your music not listen to you give some lecture. Walked out and haven't listened to them since. A once great band to be fair but bono turned into an utter bellend. A hypocritical bellend at that.

Both War (1983) and The unforgettable fire (1984, and the world tour for which saw them selling out the NEC and Wembley) were UK number 1 albums and that was nearly 40 years ago! I can only presume that mcmuffin thinks we're still living in the early 2000s and by 30 years ago he means the 70s

Nevertheless I am interested as to whether he prefers to be addressed as "Bono" or "Paul" when him and his good lady Alison are down the local for a bit of 'craic'.

Some decent very early stuff. I had a record shop many years ago and sold their first 12" single on some CBS Irish label I cannot remember the name now but it went for a fait few quid (couple of hundred).Cannot stand Bono now so I dont listen to anything by him or them. This is the one. www.discogs.com/release/1460039-U2-Three

Yeah, Yeah I know all that - but the fact remains they were still very much in the shadow of 'The Alarm".

Couldn't tell you a song they've released in 20 plus years mind you. Just thinking the same - I got Beautiful Day, but that was probably 2001, City of Blinding Lights & Vertigo. But I'd generally agree with you - 80's and early 90's they were immense. After that, occasional good songs for a decade. Since mid 00's - nothing

It's clearly fashionable to dislike them, but i don't give a shit, layers of sound that most current bands can only dream of.
