See tonights Sentinel page 20.This council have given the Kismet in Burslem £400k to "upgrade a listed building"The kitchen has been improved and seating increased from42 to 70.Councillor Mohammed Pervez says the restaurant could play a part in plans to encourage more visitors to the Mother town.
The owner of this place has had it since 1962,so you would have thought if the place wanted extending then he could, after all this time, done it himself.
I see this as an absolute waste of public money,and another example of how this council pisses money up the wall.
How many changing facilities could kids have at parks for £400k?
The bloke who owns the Kismet must have thought it was Christmas when that fell in his lap.
Never mind eh,they will soon send the pond life down the Britt to book a few cars and swell the coffers.

The whole of burslem needs doing up. Renew the place, put a few decent shops in the place and get the market going strong on a friday.
Some bloody good pubs in burselm, whether vale or not you can have a cracking night on a saturday many a lock in with karaoke and live entertainment etc, get thee sens down one nate

Its a totally different situation as the Britannia Stadium brings in a hell of a lot of revenue and tourism to the area, doesn't just host Football matches, is an asset to the county and sees hundreds of thousands of people going through the turnstiles each season.
Can the same be said about a shitty little indian restaurant in Burslem? So grow up mate.
I didnt report it was £400k, the sentinel did, and are still doing on their website.
As for the wrongdoing - as the original post says - How many kids could benefit from £400k worth of renovation to the already flailing parks and open spaces???

Well you must have a different version of the sentinel website then as the version I have clearly states £40k.
Unless I missed something the majority of the people who visit the Britannia are local people so very little tourism there, a couple of concerts a year hardly makes it the fucking O2 arena now does it ? The majority of the revenue at the britannia stadium goes to Stoke so little benefit to the council there.
So why is it ok for the council to spend millions doing up one business's premises yet wrong for to spend £40k on anothers it's either right or wrong in principle.

£400k sounds silly money but I can't see what on earth's wrong with the principle. This is a business that's kept going for many years in a town where most businesses last about 5 minutes (the food was good last time I went too), and instead of either ruining a good building in a depressed area that's still got some nice architecture left or knocking it down altogether the plan is to restore it, where's the problem with that??? And I kind of don't think we'd be having these arguments if everyone's name was Colclough... |

It's that simple a yes or no answer some might even say a black or white issue but you've cleared that up as not being the issue for you as it was all over the amount wasn't it..........

1)Protect a listed building
2)Explain how a councillor can come out with such bollox as it will increase the number of people coming to the mother town.
It`s an Indian not the Ivy for fooks sake.
If they can blow £40k,I know a good scout group and youth club that would like to put a hole in it.

By no means an expert on the subject, but if it is as is stated a "listed building" there may be government regulation that require the Council to help fund any work that would apply whoever was the owner.

Correct.
£40k is a lot different than nearly half a million.
So, don't really care now - £40k to do up a business is fair enough.
But trying to justify the spend with saying it helps keep the building 'listed' is just not true - but then again, I wouldnt expect anything more from local councillors / MP's !!!
