this 3 at the back with wing backs shit. Guardiola and Klopp won't entertain it but maybe MON is more progressive??

Is that the problem though, or are we just not using the personnel properly?

You’ve named 2 managers who have some of the worlds best full backs who play for teams that attack so much that they can effectively allow their fullbacks to play like wingers.
As above, not really the 3 cb and wingback that’s the issue is it?
We’ve seen the best form and some of the most enlightening play from a group in red and white for a very long time… which suggests we should stick with it and focus on fine tuning it.
Have you got some one that can run and get ya some clean undies?

We do not have the players for that system to work in every game. Rowett changed his set up today which exposed us to a certain degree.

Is that the problem though, or are we just not using the personnel properly? A back 4 of Smith, Souttar, Wilmot and Tymon with the full backs pushing forward isn't too much different to what we play with three at the back but i accept that would need a more defensive minded midfielder in front of them. Teams just seem to get behind us so easily in the channels.

I don’t think it is formation, tactics or personnel.
I think it is all down to basic leadership. There is something lacking with our manager’s leadership and I can’t put my finger on it.
He has presided over 101 games and I still don’t know what he stands for.
He has so many admirable qualities but unless his leadership is right, we won’t progress as we want.

Teams just seem to get behind us so easily in the channels. I think it’s quite different in the sense that it gives a lot more defensive duties to the full backs and I don’t think Tymon could handle that. I honestly think it’s just a case of getting the midfield balance right. The issue is as you say we need a proper DM and the manager has decided that’s beneath us for some unfathomable reason.

Smith and Tymon have put in some cracking crosses this season but they're not my idea of full backs. So l'd stick to 352 thanks and get the bloody midfield sorted !

O’Neill said last week that he plays this system because Smith and Tymon are better wing backs than full backs so I’d suggest we may be persisting with it for a while yet.

I don’t think it’s a bad formation with the right players in it but pointless if you don’t have WBs. If Smith and Tymon are firing it works but you have to have attack minded full backs.

We’ve created plenty of chances this season and the defeats though frustrating have generally been by the odd goal. Tighten up the midfield and I think you solve the problem.

The wing backs have created so many chances this season - we won’t ditch them.
The problem is every game they get numerous crosses away and no fucker is on the end of them.
Campbell and Fletcher need to start up front.
Thompson should be starting in midfield as at least he puts himself about a bit.
The system is fine- however- we need a proper DM- it’s that simple

I don't know to be honest, are we creating more chances than any other team in the league or are the chances we create not being taken?

Until recently we were right up there in terms of most chances created in the division. I think you lose that if you ditch the system because I think we’ve built a squad with wing backs instead of full backs. I think you still have the same problems in midfield as well ie we don’t have a DM. You can’t play Sawyers as one of the deeper two. Allen and Thompson share the load of a DM so I think you have to play both, play Powell as one of your front two and have Vrancic or Sawyers as the most advanced of the midfield three.

The pair of them can be equally wasteful with their passing. Allen has the edge in terms of tackling (though that's not saying much) but Sawyers has the edge in terms of moving the ball forward and creativity so that's why I'd opt for him.

He can't put a tackle in to save his life and I think he knows it and holds off making the challenge.
