Adil Rashid has revealed he's interested in playing Test Cricket and that Brendan has messaged him... hmm, I'd be up for that. I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that Root isn't captain any more.

Adil and Joe are at Yorkshire together so you'd assume they get on?!

Adil and Joe are at Yorkshire together so you'd assume they get on?! You may be right but I got the impression that Root didn't have total confidence in Rashid in the way for example that Eoin Morgan does. Although they both play for Yorkshire, they haven't played that much together as Root rarely plays because of his England commitments and Rashid doesn't play red ball cricket.

True, he didn't seem to have much faith in Leach either.

What a marvellous game of T20 that was. A treat for a dull Wednesday night.

I'd have rather seen Brook and Parkinson but can't say I'm surprised.....

I'd have rather seen Brook and Parkinson but can't say I'm surprised..... No surprise. But good news for my fantasy county championship team as Brook and Parkinson are in my team so that’s two substitutions I don’t need to make. Btw - a wee prompt for the cricket fantasists among us. The next round of county championships kicks off in a few days time, so you might want to have a think about your teams.

I don’t get why these sportsman testing positive for Covid are immediately ruled out? I thought there were no restrictions

I don’t get why these sportsman testing positive for Covid are immediately ruled out? I thought there were no restrictions It makes sense. If you have an infectious disease, you should not put yourself in a situation where you will likely spread it. Add to that, if an elite sportsman isn’t well he/she should not play. Particularly in something like a 5 day test where you may well get increasingly unwell. Either that, or he wears a face mask while batting and fielding. And probably should field at third man or fine leg, definitely not in the slips. And has to wear gloves. And a big red pointy hat with a flashing light on top so everyone can see he is unclean. With bells on too, so blind people can be also be aware.

Really excited for this 2nd test. Think it's going to be a cracker, and the forecast looks good.
Normally moves about at Trent Bridge, but with the warm dry weather, possibility spin could come into play on days 3/4/5?

I'm looking to head up on Monday so I'm hoping for England to have a rare day where they end the day 278-4 at the close to make sure a day 4 is likely.

Personally, I would've batted this morning. Suns out, always bat on day 1

Personally, I would've batted this morning. Suns out, always bat on day 1 Felt the wrong decision although NZ said they'd do the same. Based purely on having no real confidence in the top order I would suggest as this is a pitch to score runs on once you get through the first 20/30 overs.........

Spinner on before lunch on day one after winning the toss and bowling, looking ominous.
Although as I type this Stokes picks up a timely wicket. Looks a belting pitch.

The over rate today has been absolutely appalling. If i'd paid to go and watch a days cricket, i'd be fuming at the loss of overs.
County cricket is brilliant. £10 to get in, and guaranteed to get 96 overs if the weather holds.

More bang average bowling from Jack Leach. Nice bloke and very likeable, but simply not a test cricketer.
Get Matt Parkinson in there. Mind you, England's loss is Lancs' gain and he's having a great season for them.

This is turning out to be a shocker of a decision to field first..... A pretty poor day for Stokes as a captain. That dreadful decision at the toss. A couple of garbage reviews. And, an appalling over rate. A fine day for New Zealand though. The pair at the wicket have played very well, carrying on their good form from Lords.

Oh… and we’re back to our usual miserable fielding.
4 chances gone west, only one of which was tricky.
That last one won’t even count as a drop because Crawley and Bairstow both watched it and each other.
Normal dismal service has been resumed.
This has been a terrible day for England.

It's been lethargic with the ball and in the field, to put a team in and then be so insipid is bizarre......
