To them, I'm assuming? We won't get 20 2ickets all series with this attack, never mind in one test. It’s the first day

We'll need to restrict Pakistan to 450 and go big in our innings, can't see how we take 20 wickets on this pitch though.....

You can just see it - they get 450+ and we go wildly at it and 250 all out and we are up against it. Let’s hope I’m wrong.

You couldn't make it up, Duckett hurts his hand making that final catch and he's due back out to bat in 10 minutes.
Tricky little session for England this chasing 550, can't be anymore than 1 down at the close......
EDIT Pope opening, looked a bad one for Duckett.

That looked an awful injury. Probable surgery.

Still struggling to comprehend the forced retirement of Jimmy Anderson when the new ball replacement has been 36 year old Chris Woakes who has a shocking bowling record away from home? It was a decision that made absolutely no sense. Leach is crap, like a club spinner who belongs in the Staffs Prem!

Ollie Pope is the ultimate show pony. Every so often he makes a big score but in between there are a lot of failures. I think he is lucky to be captain. I'm not sure he should even be in the team.

Take a bow Joe Root.
Calm, assured, great facing spin, great facing quicks, front foot, back foot, short stuff, there are very few weaknesses in his temperament or technique……

I reckon I could pad up and bat for hours on this pitch, against any attack
Prepared to the instructions of Shan Masood (capt) - more grass, dry, flat - I reckon they didnt fancy another 3-0 home drubbing so barring a batting collapse from either team we will see 3 draws!
For a lot of peoples preconceptions of Pakistan, it always looks lovely on the cricket coverage - green, colourful, vibrant. They always seem so pleased to see visitors too. Guessing there is a vast difference between the (very) North and South though in terms of landscape both political, religion and geography.

They must have the worst spin attack I've ever seen. Add that to this wicket, and it adds up to a boring test - unless we can bat quickly get 100 lead and then put pressure on.
It's a disgrace of a test match wicket - no point being a bowler

Do you think he can realistically beat Tendulkar's record. It seems a big ask! Barring a bad injury he's definitely going to beat Ponting into 2nd place.

I think he might just fall short of Tendulkar's record, but it depends on him though I suppose. He's fit, rarely gets injured so it's all about his desire to carry on touring and playing .........

The amount of tests England play compared to others he will be fine! Min 6 home tests (sometimes 8/9), 6 min away tests (again sometimes 9 if Ashes/SA/India) Even based on 12 minimum, 2 innings per match, averages 50, couple of daddy hundreds he will be 900-1200 runs per season in tests.

Perhaps he needs to average 100 in Australia helping the team to an Ashes win down under (and passing Ponting’s run total in the process) to secure that!

Loads of time left Tendulkar retired at 40 i believe. Root easily scores 500 a year until hes 40 Its a different era now and root is fitter and healthier than cricketers of the past. injury aside when he retires he will have every individual test batting record. People would think the record would not be broken, root's will last a very long time

He is the best out of all those above him. Hes played prob 60% of his tests in England dont forget, not on roads in India/SA/Aus, all whilst propping up our batting and being an opener in a lot of those tests too due to our woeful opening partnerships we tried.

I get that we're trying to protect him and manage his body, but hindsight has to ask is there no way we could have taken Archer for this relatively short series? Could be the difference on flat tracks like this. Especially without Woody.

Is cricket the 2nd most boring sport in the universe just behind F1 and just in front of Curling? Gouranga.
