There’s no point to Anderson playing in these Tests is there? What purpose does it serve him other than to get knackered a bit quicker.

It's great that Test Cricket is back in Pakistan but they really need to produce better wickets than this. It's also frustrating that they lose about an hour a day to bad light. This should have been scheduled as a 6 day test to make up for the time lost. Strange decision all round, especially when England often start series poorly. You'd think you'd want a result pitch, not one that basically provides a warm up game?

Apparently Rawalpindi is one of the flattest surfaces in Pakistan. When they played the Aussies there in March, Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins and Lyon only took 3 wickets between them the whole test.
I think Multan and Karachi have a bit more in the surface to assist the bowlers so hopefully will be more competitive. They also are a bit further south, a bit warmer and should get a bit more light later in the day.
One thing this has highlighted is that Stokes and McCullum have been nice and inventive with their fields and bowling plans. They haven't just been boring and tried to bowl bouncers or on leg stump to dry up the runs. I suppose it helps when you have 650 on the board though.
Finally, Jack Leach is a poor spinner at test level and has been out bowled by a part timer on debut. We need better than him if we are going to be a top side again.

I’d rather we played an extra batsman than Leach. I just don’t see what he offers. Shame Ali has retired from test cricket.

This team/management never cease to amaze at the minute A question was just posed on Twitter which said are England and the players disrespecting Test cricket with the way they’re going about it?Thoughts?

I fear we may have declared a little early. Brave but maybe a little reckless on this pitch.

Brook showing why I think he needs to be in the team but who for?
I’d still say Foakes.

As someone who loved seeing Cook grind out a ton, or the thrill of a counter-attack to change a game by the likes of Botham/Pieterson/Flintoff / Stokes, I must admit that the one-paced all-out attack approach loses a bit of the appeal of Test cricket after a while.

Just a quick question to you cricket buffs.. going to watch 20 20 match at old Trafford next year. Says it starts at 6pm, any ideas when it would finnish (last trains 9:45pm) is that doable or would you just stop over? Cheers👍🏻

Can't help but think that we have just handed them the win here. Certainly we are tempting them to chase the win Think I prefer that than playing safe for the draw

No idea how close the station is to OT as I've not been there but you should be fine getting a 9:45 train with a 6pm start.

I do think it's a slightly generous declaration on that pitch but I think most sports fans appreciate a team going for a win, even if that means they ultimately lose. (I'll bet it's much more enjoyable to play in too!) I hope England do the same tonight in the football and every match for the rest of the WC, however far they get. A dull, cagey game and an exit on penalties will be much more disappointing than a defeat while going for it.

Cheers👍🏻 If it’s a full game where pretty much 40 overs are bowled it won’t finish before 9. The tram stop is right by the ground but it gets very busy after games and you can have a bit of wait there and then a ten minute journey to Piccadilly. Best bet is stopping over.

Gut feeling is we declared half an hour too early although with Livingston struggling to even walk and only the bowlers left I don’t think we would have added many more runs.
There’ll be no complaints from me if we lose though, we’ve given it a proper go and have made it a spectacle when any other side would have happily let the game peter out into a draw.

If say the game is 70/30 in Pakistan’s favour as it stands.
I admire Stokes’ declaration and their tactics will breathe life into test cricket however I fear our bang average spinners will ultimately cost us.
We need a magic spell from Stokes to get us back in this…..

They were saying earlier spin has no edge in Pakistan on the last day as for some reason the pitches don’t break up Bizarre I know It’s just such a flat pitch, it’s playing the same now as it did on day one. You’d expect plenty of uneven bounce for the quicks and it to be ragging for the spinners but there’s just nothing there for the bowlers at all. Pakistan will knock these off without much fuss.
