Surely the logical interpretation would be 1-2 = Very poor 3-4 = Below average 5-6 = Average 7-8 = Good 9-10 = Excellent 1 disastrous 2 awful 3 poor 4 well under par 5 one side of average 6 the other side of average 7 decent 8 good 9 excellent 10 outstanding Convention is that player's typically start at 5 without kicking a ball, correct? I thought that's how it was done. Thus anything below 5 is an indicator that they were actually a hindrance to the team's performance. What you have put there appears to be in line with that.

Yes, although technically 5 is slightly below average on a ten-point scale (assuming you don’t award 0s). And 6 is slightly above it, so 5.5 should be the baseline bog standard performance.
