That’s great news. Hope he gets on the scoresheet early for them.

Be interesting to see how we get on without Taylor's goals, where's Norton by the way? No Porter either?

No idea what happened to him this season. He seemed to be progressing relatively well and when he made it into the first team, I was impressed with his physicality given his age and the difference in those aspects between the age groups.

I didn't really rate him the short time since he came November the year before laqst, but others did. I think it's just one example that loans are a risky business for the player involved. Once out of sight, out of mind. One minute you're playing for a team that some consider promotion bound (though we never were) and next you're playing lower league, maybe not even in the first team. He might have gone there as cover for someone, but that''s not what he needed. I believe he's still under contract, so he could be given another chance to resurrect his career under Rooster's guidance. The first team, however, seems much further away than this time last year when he was playing well enough to play some minutes. But now there are several O'Neill signings ahead of him.

At the same time though, while he did look good enough physically, I don’t remember him doing anything in his cameos that was actually good. I was more just excited about a new player coming through, rather than what that new player was doing

At the same time though, while he did look good enough physically, I don’t remember him doing anything in his cameos that was actually good. I was more just excited about a new player coming through, rather than what that new player was doing I don't think cameos are a fair opportunity to show what you can do, unless your last name is Fairclough, and you just have the ability to be instantly performing at a good level. That ability never did his Liverpool career much good though. It's the u23 games that should give the manager a clearer idea of whether a player is up to it or not. Obviously O'Neill saw something from watching him there, but with his decidedly overly careful manner, he never gave him 90 mins to fall into the rhythm in a game obviously at a much higher level, so I'm just questioning whether those cameos did more harm than good. It probably made Norton think he was on the verge of playing on a fairly regular basis, not automatic choice, but an option sometimes. But he was never anywhere near in O'Neill's thinking, or he wouldn't have allowed the loan. He played in a three with Varian and for a short period DWP. Last season I watched most games, and I thought Varian was the more likely of the two, but once DWP arrived, it was a totally different ball game, and the only thing that was wrong was that our over careful manager waited nine months before playing him in the league. On the other hand, he oversaw the development from winger to a more central forward role, which I think is much better, and I look forward to seeing him playing there as much as possible, if the manager's ego doesn't get in the way.

Remember Tre Pemberton signing for Stoke in 2017 from Blackburn. & this evening he was warming the bench for Stafford Rangers! Shows the fine line between making it in the game as a youngster and dipping out into the non league scene.

Shows the fine line between making it in the game as a youngster and dipping out into the non league scene. After a difficult start at the Boro through injuries he has worked his way into the side and has performed pretty well. Started on the bench tonight as Stafford gave opportunities to a few players on the fringes and coming back from injury. So it wasn’t even Stafford’s strongest possible 11.
