I'd hate to think I was seriously ill.
Tried to Docs again today. Option 2 on the phone system, "book an appointment using our automated service" - I got "Sorry, our Automated Service is not currently available"...
So I held on the line to speak to the receptionist (as per their automated message) - "Sorry, your request cannot be completed" and you get cut off.
After 5 times if trying, I have given up. God forbid I'm old, very ill, vulnerable, or I dunno, maybe one of those crazy folk that work for a living and haven't got the spare time to arse about.
Bollocks.

For balance, if anyone is in the market for a new boiler, I'd recommend Boxt. Unbelievable service. And way cheaper than British Gas 👍

My Mrs was after something for her mum, and had issues with the phone system, she just went to the receptionist who tried to tell her to use the phone - bad idea

Just tried to get a face to face appointment next week at our Doc's. Been trying since Monday but phone is either constantly engaged or you get an automated choice - press 1 for prescriptions, 2 for appointments etc. Pressed 2 only to get another automated message saying the automated system is not working due to staff shortages due to Covid. The message ends with Do Not Come To The Surgery Unless You Have An Appointment !

My surgery's automated message begins with "if you have recently travelled to China.." and then goes on to say don't go to the surgery. I think it was recorded in January 2020.

It was easier to get an appointment with Her Majesty the Queen than it was my doctors pre-pandemic. Now it's like having to juggle custard whilst peddling a unicycle up hill on the way to visit Her Majesty the Queen to get an appointment. If I was choking in the car park I think I'd perform my own tracheotomy before venturing inside.......

Seems like it’s the same for everyone where GP’s are concerned. Absolutely useless, they should be forced to work 24 hrs a day for the next 2 years to catch up. The doctors at the hospital have been heroic mind, I’d be in a box if they hadn’t kept in touch regularly and kept on running tests. They’ve sent 8 letters to my doctors this year about my situation and I haven’t heard off the doctor once.

The opposite. I've heard services using poor service as an excuse for covid.
My local grocery store for instance.
They said they didn't have enough people employed at times, so they could only offer poor service they said, and were not to blame if they caught covid due to that, since the queue was moving slower.

Our doctors surgery run a system called E-Consult. You fill in an online form and the doctor will reply within 24 hours and call you in for a face to face if necessary. I used it a few weeks ago to get my painkillers changed and was called in for a review. When I walked into her surgery her first comment was …..it’s so nice to see someone face to face for a change. For those without PC or tablet to use E-Consult then the receptionist will get the doctor to phone you back the same day and triage your ailment. It works ok for those with minor ailments or ongoing treatment consultations but for urgent issues then this is probably why A&Es are inundated.
