Worse than K Scott, but you can bet he will score against us, if the opportunity arises. That's a bold claim, Keith Scott is the benchmark when it comes to shit Stoke strikers imo, almost God like in his status as the best of the worst. Vokes isn't fit to lace Scott's boots. Keith Scott has gone down in Stoke City legend, Vokes is far to 'meh' to achieve that. Scott was only here for a short time but he was world class at missing the unmissable, a very consistent player to his credit also.

I still think Vokes in a 4 4 2 formation with a quick partner running the channels could could do well, but with our preferred systems he is f-----! I agree, he's had a tough time from some of our fans - scored some important goals for us, particularly last season and just isn't suited to our System(whatever that is) I can't rmember us playing him up front alongside Campbell, so I actually don't think we have played Vokes on top with a quick partner ever?

He might be worse now than Scott was for Stoke but Vokes has a far better record (pre Stoke obviously) than Scott For me Scott was worse because he could move about more but was (at best) equally shyte and by all accounts a tosser as well The sad conclusion is there is a lot of competition in the all time shit Stoke strikers competition š Vokes has at least scored at high levels, Scott was just atrocious. Vokes will suit the right team but it isn't us.

Given the situation with FFP etc, we are unlikely to bring much in. I wouldnāt be adverse to playing a more narrow 4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1 with Vokes in the centre and Brown (work rate) and Campbell (speed/composure) working off either side. The 4-2-3-1 would obviously have Powell in behind Vokes.

For obvious reasons, yes please move Vokes on to another team.
I'm curious to see what he plays like somewhere else. Might answer whether or not we're the league leaders at identifying/buying clapped-out/ineffective strikers or if it's a problem within our coaching/system/style of play.

We also need to offload players on high wages with little impact. I also think our own youngster Norton should be given more chances as he looked very promising.

Itās quite likely that Stoke are going to have to find a way to make the most of one (or two) of those three this season. I also think Norton looked promising, but if heās going to compete with two many others for positions, Iād rather he gets time out on loan.

I simply do not conceive how a 'must play when fit' clause would work! How would it be administered? Fit according to whom? Physically fit, mentally fit or both? The whole idea is ridiculous and would be full of exploitable holes for either part to abuse.
Accept it.. MoN will play him as a sub when he's short on options and that's pretty much it, for me. MoN suffers poor game management alot of the time and his use of subs is often downright perplexing.
There you go mystery solved! ** comments above posted due to time tunnel type experience after starting at the beginning of this thread š
I have never said this before but come on City!!! ( Bristol City that is ) you know you need our well thought of Centre Forward. It's no brainer.. surely? š

It's no brainer.. surely? š There was a story of a player who negotiated that every year the club would buy him a new house. Every year, he was given a Lego house! Giuseppe Reina was his name. They settled out of court. With regards to the play if fit, it reads as a nonsensical fantasy that some appear relentless in their pursuit to make a reality by constantly perpetuating the myth. It drives me nuts! Itās quite possible that some of these kinds of clauses exist for players in various countries (the US, China, Saudi), but I canāt see it being a thing in the U.K., let alone for players who arenāt considered huge coups.

If we were to start Vokes as the orthodox No 9 (a big if) surely we'd need to go 442 with (ideally) Ty alongside him feeding on his chest downs and cushioned headers (?). Would mean dropping the 4241 which is designed to accommodate Powell and a proper winger (Doughty) - so more cons than pros really.

For all the vitriol aimed at the player IMHO I donāt think heās ever had the opportunity of playing in a role/style that suits his strengths since he was signed. A poor signing, his fault or the fault of others? Tbh though mate I'm not entirely sure what his system or style is. I don't think he's shown much promise in any formation we've played and I suspect since he's arrived we probably played a variety of different systems and formations. I've just seen so little from him in any game he's featured. The question for all is how many times had they seen him play (not on TV) to form a constructive opinion prior to him joining usā¦.what type of player were we signing? He was (has been) a successful professional player His professional career prior to joining us suggests he is a better player than we have seen. It āappearsā he is more of a target player rather than a goal scorer. I personally donāt believe weāve played to his strengths (whatever they are). His fault or ours? Poor signing for us, undoubtedly. Whoās fault?

I know exactly how Vokes feels. I played rugby once (as in once ever) for my school and in that game I was brought on right at the end of the game and the final whistle went before play had resumed.
I also played football for the cub scouts and was utterly awful (turns out I had muscular dystrophy but that's another story). I was a defender and rarely ventured out of our half. One time we had a corner and I was persuaded to go up the other end. The ball came towards me so I shut my eyes (obviously) and the ball hit me on the head and went in. I was so taken aback by the knock on the head that I didn't know I'd scored. Everyone was celebrating the goal and I said "Who scored?" and they said "You did!"
Sound familiar Vokesy? (apart from the goal bit of course...)

I love this quote from Bristol city ...
"As it stands, Bristol City are unlikely at this stage to sign Vokes... but he remains an option should various other targets be missed and the window develop in not the way Pearson intends."
Back up to the back up , plan Z for Bristol city
Sounds about right
