Too arsed to go look them up, but I recall reading more than one article where Etebo's agent clearly stated that he won't play in the Championship. Now I know that's the agent and not the player, but I remember the course of events occurring just as LordB states above. Even if he (Agent) changes his mind, Etebo is clearly only here on a stopover to somewhere else. So it's time: Get him the f*ck Out of here And let's move on. I wonder if there is a 'not playing in the championship'clause in Etebo's contract. It seems clear that he never had any intention of playing at that level so surely he and his agent would have insisted on such a clause tied to a deal that allowed him to leave quite easily. At the time he signed I don't think we were in the best of health and relegation must have been something in the contemplation of both parties at the time the contract was entered into. If this was the case, surely it would not be too difficult to draft a clause that sets out clearly what each party wants in the event of relegation? Who knows who said what to whom and what promises were made and/or broken. If Etebo's contract says he is not bound to play in the championship and Stoke are bound to find him an acceptable alternative club within a reasonable time then I don't see a major issue here. 20yrs ago I would have thought such a clause would be laughed at by all parties but now I am not so sure. Not sure there is any point discussing this anymore. MON and Scholes will decide what is the best course of action and proceed accordingly. I think that's highly probable (existence of that type of clause)

Id be surprised if that was the case, We shouldn't be agreeing to sign players that insist on such clauses in their contract. It says a lot about a player that clause request.

I think that's highly probable (existence of that type of clause) It's absolute nonsense Etebo signed after we were relegated Touche! I stand corrected. How easy is it to forget that. So I no longer think probable evidence exists to presume that a clause of that nature would be likely in one of our contracts, especially at Championship level. We apologize for the thread-interruption caused by our temporary transformer explosion. We now return you to your regularly-scheduled programming. Will Mr. Bean ever get that needle out of his leg? We'll find out next.

So, if we were already in the championship when Etebo signed then why did his agent say he would not play in the championship? Strange. I can only assume he didn't like what he saw and changed his mind or he had a clause committing to a season. Original point remains. No one knows what was agreed. MON and Scholes will sort it out to ensure that we get the best out of it for the club in the circumstances.

I hope they stay up and we go up. Play them next season they put him on and he has the worst game of his life missing an open goal, scoring an own goal then gifting us a penalty, that we score, then being sent off he is totally humiliated. He quits football moves back in with his mum back in Africa and becomes a used donkey salesman Don’t be ridiculous. Watford won’t stay up next season. 😉 And even more absurdly - don’t be ridiculous with your silly ideas that Stoke are getting promoted next season!

Option to buy is a bit dubious when he'll basically be worthless with 1 year left on his deal.

Do we know what sort of option to buy figure we are looking at?

Do we know what sort of option to buy figure we are looking at? Online in the Watford area they seem to say an obligation to buy at £1.5M if they stay up next season. So probably another season on loan 2022/23.

You would have thought that for 1.5m they would have just taken a punt It would be £2.6M now to take a punt And why would they? He’s not proven himself anywhere since he’s been here, not enough to get a loan back or a decent offer anyways. Let’s see what he does in the Prem. I hope that he has a breakout season personally. (Then we sell him for an okay fee and his leg falls off).
