Only if they show a massive and sustained level of improvement, I can't see Matondo being here long enough to have the opportunity.

Brown has shown enough in recent weeks with his finishing that he has something to work on. It's technique he needs to improve, which to be fair you can improve given time. It's just a case of how much you can improve it and will it be enough?

No.
They've both been poor and Brown at least doesn't look like he will get better other than scoring a few.
But if his control stays bad and he scores 15 in a season then that's fine.
Matondo I think has been over criticised on here generally but overall his performances have been poor. Looks far more likely to achieve something in the game than Brown though.

Matondo I think has been over criticised on here generally but overall his performances have been poor. Looks far more likely to achieve something in the game than Brown though. He was much improved on Saturday but one swallow etc. However, he does have pace and that was the first time he had the chance to run free with ball towards the goal instead of receiving it at his feet and his back to the goal. His tracking back was good too and he put in a good shift. I checked his record and he’s only played about 30 games in the past three years at any level and most of those were two years ago at Schalke. He needs an extended run to show what he can do. The question is does he have the desire and the willingness to put in the effort to succeed in professional football. There are many very capable players that don’t make it because they lack those qualities and some that succeed through sheer effort and desire. No-one would say Milner is the greatest footballer in the world but what he lacks in skill he more than makes up for in effort and hard work. Same goes for Kevin Keegan and Gary Linekar. My nephews played for Nottingham boys with a certain player who should remain nameless that they all considered a donkey that went on to win a Premier League medal through sheer effort.

The decision to extend his loan has to be put within the context of what other players are available and willing to join Stoke. Given his very limited playing time, he may have no interest in staying either. Matondo’s loan experience may put off other potential loanee as well. The whole point of going on loan to a lower level team is get more playing time. If Stoke get a reputation for leaving loaners on the bench may present a recruitment challenge.

My nephews played for Nottingham boys with a certain player who should remain nameless that they all considered a donkey that went on to win a Premier League medal through sheer effort. I've watched enough football and footballers over the years to be very wary of condemning young players out of hand. I'll just mention one youngster who had an appalling game when I first saw him play live. When we played Spurs at the Brit in our first year after promotion they had a young Gareth Bale at full back. He was poor and the media made a lot of the fact that he had made many many appearances for Spurs and had never been on the winning side. His poor run continued against us. He ended up with a red card and was very forgettable in the game which was most remembered for the Spurs goalie bursting into tears - he was so stressed! If anyone had predicted that Bale would go on to be sold to Real Madrid for a (then) World Record fee a few years later, I would have asked them what they were smoking - and if the answer was "nothing" I would have seriously worried about their mental state. Football really is a funny old game - and we should never forget that!

Players can and do improve even in mid 20s
I remember seeing Vardy a few times while he was Stockbridge when I was living up that way. He was 22-23 then, he was very raw.
In fact, his striking partner always looked the more promising of the two when I saw them. He is at Harrogate now, not bad but hardly on Vardy's level.
They weren't tearing that league up either, struggling lower & mid table of the Evo-Stik NPL North (effectively Division 7)

It's just a case of how much you can improve it and will it be enough? Campbell struggled when he first got into the side. poor decision making, way too easily marked out of games and stood waiting for the ball. We obviously spent time working on his faults as he improved 100% Let's not forget he couldn't score and never looked like doing so first dozen games or so. Brown has clearly improved these last few games

Brown is just not very good and in spite of a good run, backed by the Manager and scoring the odd goal - Div 1 or 2 at best - Next Season We are looking up to the Premier League not down
