Thought I would settle down and watch Sheffield United v. Bristol City but can't possibly listen to Jonathan Pearce for 90 minutes. Sorry BBC but you'll have to do better than this - back to SSN for me

I rarely put the commentary on, especially with lockdown when there is no crowd to make an atmosphere either.

Sorry BBC but you'll have to do better than this - back to SSN for me Pearce is a Bristol City fan as well. Watched a few minutes of it. Like others i mute the commentary but Pearce is not too bad with Rachel Brown-Finnis? in tow just did in a break in play did a Milk Tray man slot about the assistant refs. Now 1-0 pen for Sheff Utd.

The BBC are flogging their FA Cup coverage rights for all they are worth.
Much to my disappointment they have cancelled 'Death in Paradise' on Thursday evening in order to shoehorn another tie in to the schedule.

I quite like Jonathan Pearce- he sounds as if he is a genuine football fan. Now if it had been Alan Green....

I think it a bloody tragedy that this great old competition has been so devalued over the years, I would of loved to watch these games but I didn't due to knowing it doesn't matter to these clubs any more, and by putting out reserve teams and kids it's clear the FA cup is nothing more than an iritance to them, when I was a kid and teenager these games really meant something, and it makes me genuinely sad to see it being treated the way it is.

The League Cup had always incurred second string teams from the 'big' clubs, but there was a time when all clubs would put out full strength sides no matter what round of the FA Cup they were playing. The turning point came when Man Utd ejected themselves from this grand old competition to play in the Club World Cup. That and the increasing pots of money from staying in the Premier League led to teams putting out reserve teams as well. Soon we'll have a final between two Championship teams. That might make the FA sit up and take notice!

Had no interest, I don't like nor have any interest in either club, I don't feel as though my life is lesser for missing it, but if it thrills you then jolly good, I suspect you're just a johnny come lately and only knew football existed after the EPL spawned.

Sadly like many things from the past that it is slowly losing it's standing as the best cup competition in the world, this is because Europe and premier league survival is far more beneficial than winning the cup and sadly that's how it is.
When the big clubs get into the later rounds then they start to show interest but that's about it.
Lower and non league clubs still love it for the fact that it's a possible money spinner that could set them up for a few seasons and maybe a chance to play at a big venue like Old Trafford of White hart lane.

Most commentators are absolutely shite, making lockdown games sound way worse than what they are. Many of them talk about everything other than what is actually going on on the pitch, as if they are some how educating us, which they are not. I've listened to games too live on the radio where the games is 5 minutes old and they haven't mentioned once what was happening on the pitch. Nigel Johnson irritated me for years but give him is due, other than getting players names wrong, you actually know what is actually happening on the pitch with his commentary. You should try listening to Europa league games over here commentated by Americans from the studio.

But with the FA cup....
Gotta love it when a dog eared Barnsley on a scrappy shitty post snow sodden February pitch start slapping around a shiny spangled Chelsea side around for an hour.
It’s a shame that people turn their back on it as a competition because it’s not what is was... especially in these moments when it does resemble what it was - their voices aren’t there to be heard.

Thought our ground looked a bit poor with the few banners in the stands, but Barnsleys efforts make ours looks great.

TBH cannot understand why football and other professional sport is not suspended. Just looked at fixtures and every competition is still in progress....Champions and Europa leagues with all competing clubs swarming across Europe with their entourages, clubs in U.K. travelling 100s of miles staying in hotels. It’s crazy and in the meantime us peasants have to stay home, holidays illegal with only essential travel allowed. A friend lives close to the vale kitman and he told him that even at div 2 level there was at least 150 people including players mixing at games. This will undoubtedly be higher in the English Proper League. It boils my piss that sport has to be some kind of special case. It’s madness.

Oh please, grow up and act your age which is likely to be considerable with your misty-eyed nostaglia for the 'good old days'. Unfortunately, like yourself I have been around a bit longer than the EPL. Oh, and its a bit silly to berate clubs for not taking the FA cup seriously and then say you have no interest in it either.
