It really isn't. While I'm not denying that the people you describe exist, it's also true that 'woke' has become used as a catch-all term for anything even the slightest bit progressive that certain people on the right reject, in precisely the same way that the term 'PC' did. It isn't 'reactionary and prejudiced' to think that it should be ok to have female co-commentators and pundits as well as male ones. I agree of course. I hate the term woke to be honest because it’s a derogatory label which inevitably rapidly fades in meaning and becomes a cliche for people to lean on, which I suppose is what you’re describing. But it does have an accurate original definition and it’s not just “caring about justice and equality”. I hate the term too, it's just another stupid Americanism used by knuckle dragging Daily Excrement reading rabid right in order to try to make them sound intelligent and edgy, in reality it just makes them sound even more stupid.

It's actually a term originally used by some American liberals to describe themselves, as in "I am woke". Some have even had it tattooed.

I don't understand why we need a woman commentator or pundit for a men's game of football ( Chelsea v Luton )
It's just bizarre
If she has more knowledge of women's football, then let her commentate on that
I have noticed on football focus , women players being asked for their ' expert opinion ' on say Liverpool v man city , why ?
Danny Murphy , Micah Richards, I am sure knows more about these sort of games than me . But nobody would want their ' expert opinion ' on a women's game of football .

In exactly the same way that when Jessica Ennis won Olympic gold, it was bizarre that men were allowed anywhere near the commentary or analysis. Wtf does Michael Johnson know about women's athletics? An utter disgrace.

And there are several top class male athletes who have female coaches.

If Micah Richards has an 'expert opinion' on any iteration of football, it'd be nice if any evidence of it came out. To quote Arrigo Sacchi, you don't have to have been a horse to be a jockey.

As nobody's answered you and I hadn't a clue, I Googled it .... adjective informal •US adjective: woke alert to injustice in society, especially racism. "we need to stay angry, and stay woke" Sums it up. Stay angry? Solution: rubber bullets 😉 So injustice in society and racism are ok?

Does that make me sexist? Absolutely not, it's just my personal preference when watching footy.

I can’t stand women commentators. I’ve written to sky & bt to complain. They obviously are short changing us using them, must be loads cheaper than an ex-pro man. I played football for over 40 years & managing, on & off at a good level, but that doesn’t mean I’m qualified to give expert inside opinion on the men’s professional game. Same as the women footballers, they haven’t played at that level, so their comments are pointless & similar to us fans. I wrote to sky, BT and the BBC too but not one of them even bothered to reply. I have now cancelled my Sky and BT subscriptions and refusing to pay my licence fee until all they take women off all sports apart from foxy boxing. We’ve got this great thing on our telly called a mute button!

It's just football as long as a pundit informs , or entertains (ideally both) couldn't care who they are, woman, man, ex footballer, someone off the street, as long as they are any good it doesn't matter some of the women pundits are very good are they not? some of them ae not can't believe this argument is raging in 2021 makes Stoke-On-trent look decades, a century even, out of date

I can quite easily think of at least as many male pundits and commentators on football that I dislike as the female variety. I have never felt moved to post a thread titled "Can somebody PLEASE shut that bloody man up?" though. I have on occasions posted that I don't like pundit or commentator xxxxxxxxxxxx. Happy to mention the name but I can't really be arsed to mention their gender! I don't like Martin Keown so I name him if I post about him but I have never felt the need to mention that he is a man.

It makes for comical reading but has very little to do with football and for it to be towards the top of a public supporters forum in 2021 make Stoke fans look rather embarrassing.
