Just watched an interview with him on YouTube, seems quite an honest guy. He talked a lot about his time with us and the training and drills with Pulis and Peter Reid, sounds like it was dinosaur stuff especially Reid with his 80s drills. It’s sounds like he’s had bad luck with all his clubs apart from Reading and Sheffield Utd, sounds like Pulis had it in for him from day one. I know a lot will disagree but I feel a sorry for him as you don’t become crap over night, especially after his Reading form. Pulis knew how to ruin someone’s career, did it to a few at Stoke.

I'm always suspicious of someone who has had, 'bad luck at all their clubs'.
Like the people who seem to just have loads of conflict in all of their jobs, or people are always difficult to them.
Not always, but usually I find it's symbolic of the person themselves being the problem.

I hear what you’re saying but Portsmouth and Oxford was out of his hands.

Actually thought we played some decent football when Reid was in the coaching set up.

I’d be careful believing anything that bitter tosser says.
That said I think Pulis and his prehistoric training sessions are well documented. They did work though. Well, up to a point!

Absolute nonsense. You have the right to feel sorry for him just like he maybe felt a little sorry for himself. Ruin players????? I think the likes of poor old Kitson didn't have the required drive & determination to make a success of his time at Stoke. Talented for sure but a huge great lack of desire and clearly believed he was better than he actually was.

Talented for sure but a huge great lack of desire and clearly believed he was better than he actually was. It’s partly that. We shouldn’t have signed him because he didn’t fit how we wanted to play and he should’ve done his homework on us too. Where he wasn’t treated brilliantly is being unceremoniously dropped for out of form players when he was in form, but he’s more to blame for the direction his career went than anyone else.

Absolutely, I think the fact that we were everyone's favourite's to go straight back down made it very difficult to attract players in the first place but on the face of it, 5M for a relatively proven goal scorer in the Prem was a good deal. Unfortunately Kitson & his family didn't settle in the area and he didn't buy into the culture & togetherness at the club. The two are quite probably linked but it just didn't happen. A player can always blame the manager, the area and I'm not suggesting that doesn't have an influence but ultimately a player has to take responsibility too.

I think that’s part of it but also he’s thrives on service from wingers and we started that season without any. He was also primarily a goalscorer and we asked him to play the Mama role. Of course there’s some onus on the player to try and adapt, but equally, if you’re going to break your transfer record, break it on someone who fits your system or try and play to their strengths.

I think the fact that he rarely broke into a jjog didn't help
He really was useless and I agree was probably all we could attract. He's moaned more Than a French hooker all his career.

Kitson did not fit the system. We basically spunked £5 million up the wall on him. When you get a player like him to play on the wing or play like he's Mama Sidibe it's only going to end one way.
Aside from that, Dave Kitson also believes he's a cut above anyone and everyone. You'll find in many of his interviews that he seemingly has never done anything wrong, ever, in his career.
He's also got supersonic hearing capabilities and heard Aaron Ramsey's leg snap in two like he was head first in a bowl of Coco Pops, unlike everyone else in the stadium. And don't forget the stare of disapproval Wenger gave him.
And don't forget the time he said he attempted to attack Pulis with a pair of scissors.
Basically I don't believe a fucking word that comes out of his mouth or that he writes down.

As Rob says he really wasn’t a striker for a TP side.
And he wasn’t useless either. For Reading he was class and even with us you could see the good parts of his game. But he just wasn’t a player that suited TP football.

I was at Leyton Orient in the Cup when he scored his first goal in the League Cup, we won 1-0, it was a good goal. My memory of him is that he was a decent footballer, but a very average striker.

I was sitting behind the manager dug outs at anfield during that 0-0 in our first season and Kitson have Pulis a volley of abuse when he was encouraged to run for a channel ball.
It was certainly not one way traffic between him and Pulis. Maybe one day Kitson will reflect on his own role in not acheiving everything he could have achieved with the talent he had because technically he was an excellent player

My bet is that ifKitson was putting in those performances in today's team, certain individuals praising him and making excuses for him would be moaning like an old woman about him

I think it was probably six of one and half a dozen of the other!!!
I've always wondered if kitson was brought in as a Sidibe upgrade.... Someone who was tall enough to play the roll, but could also score a few as well???
Possibly kitson fell out with Pulis by telling him he didn't want to play that roll??? And once you fell out with Pulis, there was never much chance of coming back was there..... James Beattie springs to mind!!!
Just a thought like!!! 🤷🏼♂️

There were people in the stands going for a Bovril overtaking him.

Nah he suited Reading well and was a good footballer. But he was bought to play in a long ball side which was just stupid. A good footballer is a good footballer. Us being long ball didn’t stop Ricardo Fuller proving himself to be the fantastic footballer he was again and again. Kitson can make all the excuses he wants but he was a striker who couldn’t score and that was never going to end well.

Fuller is my favourite Stoke player ever but let's not pretend TP's system didn't suit him a lot more than it suited Kitson. TP managed Fuller brilliantly. He didn't manage Kitson very well, though Kitson has to cop a large part of the blame himself.

It wasn’t Tony Pulis who failed to put the ball in the net on multiple occasions. It was that ginger dildo. James Beattie, a similar player but with a personality and backbone, proved that you could score goals in the Pulis system if you were half decent. Kits on wasn’t half the player he believed himself to be.

It's a bit simplistic to say 'a good player is a good player'. Players will play better in certain positions and certain systems. We didn't play to Kitson's strengths. It's on him to a degree but on us to a degree as well.
