Was never my teacher but used to love the games lessons, he would always come and have a game. Him on one side and Vince Helm on the other. Before or after your time?

RIP Wegger, matchdays will never be the same againš¢ Really sad news that mate,i knew Wegger well and played with him in the early 80's.He was a hell of a player with the sweetest of a left foot and he could put a defender on his arse at will. I remember him telling me he was the longest serving Stoke player that never played for the first team.He really was a great player but as anyone who knew him would agree very opinionated.Probably that was the reason he never played first team.Bloody sad loss that is.

He hated when pupils had to leave class early other than when it was to do with the football team if we had an away fixture vs other schools.

Should have realised that from the reference to a white board!ššStill blackboard and chalk in my day!! 75-80. How many ex Painsley post on here? In my day it was all Stoke bar a few Leeds glory hunters and the Derby fans in the Uttoxeter lotš„“

RIP Phil. Didn't know him but enjoyed watching the Reserve team of the mid 1960's. Always a good day watching them, and plenty of goals from the likes of Woodward & Bernard, and Phil Weston usually contributed with assists.

My former maths teacher from Painsley 1994-1999. Always remember he wore his blazer with his Stoke City crest of arms proudly embroidered on the chest pocket. There were always rumours amongst the lads that he used to play for Stoke, but pre-internet this could never be collaborated. Still, behind the limp he suffered, there were always glimpses of a real tough nut, a no nonsense old school footballer. This was never more evident than when a stray football would fly onto the playground from the tennis courts, where, many a time I have seen him neatly trap it on his left, flick it up and half volley it back over the fence and into play - much to the cheering and adoration from me and my 15 year old mates. A real character and an absolute legend amongst my age group. If the measure of a man is how many memories you have of him, then he did alright. RIP Sir (Sorry my homework isn't done, but what did you think to Saturday's game?) always worked Simon Wait
