It's not great right now. He's clearly a bit of a legend and the voice of our football club but his commentaries feel in decline. People on this board have mentioned some of the stuff from today alone. It's not unreasonable to point this out. Every other commentator I listen to on Radio Stoke and elsewhere doesn't make some of these errors. I think there is still a role for him but its a more scripted one and not one describing a fast paced football match Apparently pointing it out is a big no no 😂 But yes, been great, now though the commentary is pretty poor, not just from 2,000 game Nige either

All of the mistakes are magnified as we now have pictures to go with his radio commentary
Sky may well be more slick and professional as they are trained as TV commentators. No doubt they also have an array of monitors to watch too in order to make sure they are correct.
Nige is just an old fashioned radio commentator, painting pictures for his listeners. We have to allow him some artistic licence and to make errors while watching from the top of the gantry

I mean I'm probably clutching at straws here but does seem a little odd we have two commentators doing a game

You just come across like moan about everything which is allowed of course. It just gets irritating. He's going to give it to Nigel Johnson with both barrels when fans are allowed back into the stadium. Irritating, damn right you are. Instead of indirectly insulting me actually reply back to me. You have worded that like I originally said that, however it was you who said say it to his face. Then I said I would say it to him, it being that it is becoming obvious he is becoming past it. You get all high and mighty about someone having an opinion about poor commentary but you can make things up. You realise it is slander when you say untrue things about people to others. You just spout utter drivel, only have your own opinion, won't answer questions about your drivel and you lie.

I mean you have completely changed what I said. Whilst watching the matches it's irritating, but I'm not allowed to say that as this board is only for opinions on people who specialise in the profession they work in. You just come across like moan about everything which is allowed of course. It just gets irritating. Me giving my opinion about lots of misinformation during commentary is me moaning about everything. So now it's you have to be an expert in your profession for anyone to have an opinion on your work. As well as if you say anything about what service your local station provides then you moan about everything. Got you 👍.

Perhaps it’s an age thing, but I really appreciate Nige’s commentary. He has a unique style that should be cherished by all at SCFC.

Made me giggle when Nige went on a political rant about education funds being used to prop up Bolton. Sandoz had to stop him. The one downside, and it's particularly irked me these last few games, is I'm waiting for Nige's "And the ball is in the back of the net!" yelled with his normal passion when we score. I'm beginning to wonder if they're following protocol not to shout because of covid. It hasn't stopped McGarry in the Crewe games so maybe he's breaking protocol and should be sacked. Yes please. OS.

I enjoy Nigel’s commentary and remarks. I also suspect that he has been reading these threads! A few weeks ago on the original thread I commented that “ I look forward, each game, with anticipation to hear what colour STOCKINGS Stoke and the opposition are wearing” . Now after several games he has never once mention them!! 🤪 Sorry to quote myself but; Nige could you please, on Saturday V Mbro tell us the colour of the STOCKINGS to give us a laugh. 😀 Yours Faithfully. A loyal and fellow Fan Well done and thank you Nigel. We got the STOCKING colours on the 24th Min. 😀⚓️

Im wondering if the press box mini TV's are not currently operating coz I know they always show close ups & re-plays of events and are designed in mind that incidents in harder to see areas of the pitch can be viewed back and clarity sought on events that have taken place. There does seem to be alot of guess work and inaccuracies of incidents more recently.
A strange moment I noticed yesterday was that it took the commentators a long while to realise Clucas was needing to come off injured after he'd gone down the 2nd time. You could clearly see on screen that the physio & Clucas himself had signalled for a change to be made & that he was needing to come off. & Batth even walked up to him & collected the captains armband from him that Clucas had taken off and rolled up to pass on, it was that obvious he wasn't going to be able to stay on. May have just been me noticing but I'm sure if they'd got the monitors working they should of seen and twigged what was happening. Just seemed to take an age for them to realise he was definitely coming off when it had seemed obvious for quite abit prior..
If they haven't got access to this then I'll cut them abit of slack for some incidents.
But to be saying Thompson was coming on when he wasn't even on the teamsheet is just basics really.
Maybe its coz we're usually at the games and don't need or notice the live commentary that makes us pick up on the mistakes easier. Things probably wouldn't seem so bad if we were just listening instead of watching live at the same time to. Maybe its always been this hit & miss, just a thought 😉

I find Nige's eccentricities endearing, to be honest. Maybe he is losing a half step but that's only natural. I never feel it's detracting from what I'm watching.
I'm not expecting anything ultra-slick from local radio (in fact I'd be disappointed if it was too slick as I've always thought local BBC radio commentary should be an endearing mixed bag) . I just appreciate his passion for the club - and he's always had that in spades.
Matt Sandoz is perfectly fine. I like Spinksy and Liam Lawrence when they're on and Angela Smith has added something.

In previous games they have said that they hadn't seen replays when they had been shown on streams and also they announce other scores/goals at different times that they come up on the screen

Us old ‘uns can still teach you young whippersnappers a thing or two.

Did anyone listen to the radio commentary from the game we played against Swansea, I dont know who the young commentators were but it was but it was absolute garbage. I find Niges commentary soothing, and I love his style, a bit like Peter Allis on the golf, who sadly died today. He will be missed when he's gone.

Nige has probably always commented on a game that's going on in his head and nowhere else, it's just that we've never been able to see what he's commentating on before! I like his style, and can't be arsed with demanding an ultra-slick performance from some smooth bastard with an abundance of qualifications but no passion for what they're commentating on. Give me Nige and his little foibles any day of the week. I don't care if he gets the players' names wrong...it all adds to the fun.

It’s going to be very much a case of didn’t realise what we had until it’s gone with Nigel. I’m over in Notts, and the local radio over here is a little more modern and slick, but by Christ it’s as dull as dish water.

Im sorry mate but Colin Fray,Charlie Slater,John McGovern and Steve Hodge are decent co/commentators in my opinion at Radio Nottingham as are Chris Coles,Ed Dawes and Eric Steele at Radio Derby.Professionalism and knowledge are the key which sadly without Lawrence/Conroy/Smith and Pejic Radio Stoke are clueless.Pretty sure they announced Pejic is on tomorrow so it’ll be interesting to see who he replaces 🤔
