Had the same call myself from an automated bot. Clearly fake. Most of these scams originate from India, not that you're allowed to say that lol.

My good pal Susan, who's self-employed, had an identical call about 12 months ago. She said the guy rang mid-afternoon and had a 'normal' UK/English accent, ie. not any sort of 'foreign' accent, which scammers often have, and was actually very well-spoken with quite a 'posh' accent. His voice was why, to start with, it never occurred to her that it wasn't a genuine call. He told her that he was from the Tax Office and was ringing to tell her that paying her tax bill was very overdue and that she was on the point of having bailiffs calling round. She was nonplussed by this; she knew her taxes were due to be paid but as she was always meticulous about this she was (correctly) sure that they weren't due yet. He insisted they were, and so she asked him to hang on while she got her paperwork out, which she luckily had to hand. She checked it and again told him he was wrong but he continued insisting that they were late and she must pay that day, which he could arrange to do with her then & there, over the phone. This was when he started stressing the story about the bailiffs, now saying that they would be calling at her house two hours later unless she cleared the payment with him. She said he sounded so well-spoken and authoritative that she started to wonder if she had somehow misunderstood the due date for payment, and was virtually on the point of starting to follow his instructions to pay over the phone when she suddenly decided to say 'no, I'm not going to pay you now, I'm going to check this with my accountant.' At this point he lost his cool a bit, getting stroppy and shouting down the phone that she'd be very sorry when the bailiffs arrived at her house later that afternoon. She told him she'd sort it out with them and then she put the phone down. A total scam and a close thing! Unfortunately, however, a lot of people don't have the courage to stand up to these callers, who can be so convincing with their stories, which is why the scammers win so often.

Had an e-Mail arrive in my in-box yesterday demanding that I pay my TV licence at once as it's late.
Instantly knew it was a try-on as I've never had a TVL in my name as Mr Surf always pays it and has had it set up on some sort of Direct Debit for years.
The e-mail they sent me looked VERY official, though.
I'd like to 'remove all scammers from the face of the earth'. They deserve it.

I keep getting texts about an payment I've made on my HSBC account which is an eye opener considering I don't bank with them. Still, I'm sure a few of their texts will reach people with HSBC accounts and I'm sure a few of those people will fall for it. C*nts.

Sue said she'd been taken in by his cultured accent & that he sounded very intelligent. Easily done!

I had something similar from Santander drop into my e-mails about 3 years ago, Voidy. (The spelling was very poor!) I've never banked with them or ever had anything to do with them!

Answered landline phone a couple of months ago and a bot voice immediately said: 'This is your credit card company. A debit of £6oo has just been made on your credit card, to be sent abroad. If you wish to cancel this payment, press button #1.'Bluddy hell, you have to be on the ball, don't you???? I was almost halfway to pressing #1 when I thought 'WHOA!' and put the phone down. Mind you, I did phone my CC people and reported it & said if they got a request to send 600 smackers abroad to ignore it!

Another surprise - Last month's Credit Card statement included a charge from Deliveroo - which I've never used - no doubt for some takeaway eating establishment. Luckily it was for only a few pounds, but presumably whoever got away with it could have run up a much larger amount? It's a total mystery how they could have got my CC details.
I was worried in case they might try it again, so I rang Lloyds CC Fraud Dept and reported it and they instantly refunded the amount, cancelled my card and issued a new one. I was so impressed by how efficiently they handled it - fully and immediately, plus with great courtesy.
I asked the chap, purely out of interest/curiosity, if I was allowed to ask him if he could tell from their records where the charge/takeaway had been put through, as never in a million years would we be able to get takeaway places to deliver to where we are, as it's a tad remote-ish.
He said 'yes, no problem, just a moment, please'…….(**click click click**)……. 'Germany!'

020 3762 9254 Just called me, blocked. Had another call from a female asking if I’d remembered to put the washing out and picked up her stuff from the dry cleaners, voice did sound familiar put it down to a scam and ignored her.

020 3762 9254 Just called me, blocked. Unfortunately it won't make any difference as they usually change the last few digits and call again I've had a similar number call me several times, block one and another calls. I don't know how but they use some tech to disguise the original number to avoid blocks.

You’ll find with scam calls now that they purchase VoIP lines that use +44 to make it seem like they are ringing from an actual phone.
Usually they’ll use Google Calls or some other VoIP service to do this. You’ll be in a Excel spreadsheet with thousands of other unsuspecting people with a columns such as answered, gave details, declined, probability of scamming again etc...
Watch Jim Browning on YouTube, it’s fascinating and very fucking infuriating how they go as far as they do to scam.

My brother in law who is a research scientist got a call at home from Microsoft (allegedly), saying that there was a problem with his laptop, and he needed to turn it on and follow their instructions. He got totally sucked into this until my sister appeared asked what was going on, grabbed the phone hung up and closed the laptop down. Even with letters after your name you can still get scammed.

I had a call from someone claiming to be from Stoke City FC, saying that they were planning to take a payment of £100 from my account as a one off amount to contribute to correcting a critical FFP situation, before action was taken against the club by the EFL. My payment would possibly make all the difference in saving the club in the long term. Also if I wanted to increase my contribution they could do this but needed to further review my Bank details with confirmation of my agreement to any changes. It was also indicated that all fans who helped out the club during this crisis would have their name perpetually remembered on a stone memorial, to be displayed at the ground, which was currently being created in Kazakhstan.

A girl I work with they’ve totally scammed her elderly and very vulnerable mother in law for thousands on multiple occasions. They’ve now had to take control of her financial affairs as she repeatedly hands over her bank details. If they scam 1/10 callers it’s terrible.

I had one of them phone me two days ago. Couldn’t understand a word he was saying due to his accent, but he said his name was Dave. Now, he was about as Dave as I am Sanjay plus it sounded like a street market in Delhi in the background. Anyway I shouted at him that was a scammer and he started swearing at me.😂😂
I just wish there was some way you could press a button on your phone that would send 100,000 volts down the line into the ear of these little arseholes and melt them to to their seats in a shitty mess of body bits.

I shouldn't have written it on the toilet wall of that bar called bottoms Up on my last visit there I guess
