I had one about 6 weeks ago. Robotic voice with a semi convincing script until "contact us today or get ready to face the consequences" Which was clearly not HMRC language. I also had numerous fake banking texts through the same period.

On a serious note my mum gets a lot of these and she’s nearly been caught out a couple of times. Think that’s who these low lives target more than anyone so a warning to parents or anyone more vulnerable wouldn’t go amiss today.

My mum used to get plagued by cold callers on her land line, I registered her number with the Telephone Preference Service for free, didn't stop them all but cut it down substantially.

The people that do this are pondlife especially when targeting old folks. I had one the other day from a fake DVLA account. Generally when these things are genuine they’re in letter form.

Had the same yesterday saying an investigation was ongoing in my name etc..call a number, press 3 or whatever. Hell of a threatening tone. Googled the number and hey presto it's scam time.

I took a simmilar call on my partners phone whilst she was upstairs. Saying she was a suspect in a tax fraud.
I told them she was seriously ill in hospital with Covid !! They apologised and hung up.

When I get a phone call from an unknown number I immediately terminate it and add it to my "auto reject" list. Stories like this one are the reason why.

My mother nearly got caught a couple of years ago and only ended the call when they told her that her computer had recently been infected with a virus but she hadn't switched it on for 12 months. I told her not to download anything that anybody who phoned her told her to. She phoned me last week to say her ipad was infected with a virus. She was trying to get on the Sainsbury's app but she couldn't get in as it was trying to make her play a game each time. I said I'd drive over to take a look. After an hours drive to her place I found that I needed to name the three squares I could see chimney pots in the picture. She'd not come across Captcha before

I've had it. Just ignored it. Did spend a restless night though worrying about whether I could get a Stoke stream in chokey.

There are similar scam calls / e-mails about your amazon prime and netflix accounts, I knew these were fake as I recently cancelled my subscriptions so I could send some money to the daughter of the deceased nigerian oil minister to help her bring the $10m dollars of diamonds out of her country to sell and give me $500k - these scammers gotta get up early to catch me out

I love the car accident ones if I’m bored I say yes then get put through to a real person. I then proceed to ask them what kind of underwear have they got on and do they feel sexy in it, when they ask what I’m on about I say well they have personal information about me I’d just like a bit about them. Usually ends the call about that point lol

My wife got a 01223 call today (Saturday) as well. From reading this, I can see it was a scam call. She's on O2, I'm not sure if you are. Interestingly when we Googled the phone number, it turned out to originate from India! How are they managing to siphon UK telephone numbers??

A few tricks I like to play on the cunts:
1. Put some music on really loud and then when you answer the call, stick your phone next to the speaker.
2. Tell them that you're a fraud investigations officer for the police and that you can trace where the call is coming from (works best on UK based scammers).
3. If you can be arsed, tell them that you're interested in their product and then waste their time asking daft questions and giving fake info. Lead them up the garden path.
4. Tell them you're interested but that you need to answer the door and can they hang on? Then pop them on hold wasting their time until they cotton on.

I had skype requests a while back from someone in desperate help and asking for $100.00 to be sent as a loan to get them out og trouble. Wanted the money via western union. So I just made up a western Union MTC (Money transfer code ) Then 15 min later they'd be back saying MTC is wrong, oh im so sorry, let me check...Ahh...My mistake that last 6 should be a 9, this went on for a while, and I was telling em im an OAP with poor sight, eventually I said " Ring my son, he will help you, he's very clever, he's a policeman" Would have loved to see the elation, followed by frustration, on the fuckers face each time he went to Western Union.

On the 18th I had a call from +232 592719012
That is the area code for Somalia.
Why the fuck would someone from Somalia need me exactly?
I hardly get fake car crash/arrest warrant/tax evasion calls though. Signing my mobile on to the TPS seemed to help a load.

HMRC only make contact about serious matters by letter. Any phonecalls and emails with a threatening tone are scams.
