Interesting/surprising to see Ince on the bench ahead of McClean. Yeah what's happened with McClean? He's not getting a look in for the squad, let alone the XI... Has he not failed a pre kick off fitness test?

Batth on the bench. Clucas not involved so presumably injured Not been quite at his sharpest or best and has had knocks in several recent games. Definitely flagging towards the end of the Luton game. Being rested for me. Good game for Thompson to come into.

Sensible line up, keeping faith with the young players, minimal changes where necessary it seems

Interesting/surprising to see Ince on the bench ahead of McClean. I presume McClean hasn't shaken off the injury he had last Saturday. Or they could be waiting to unleash him on Brentford - theoretically a much harder game. I like the word "unleash". Maybe that's what we're planning for Ince!

Was Mikel captain on Saturday as well? Can’t say I noticed..... Clucas, I think.. Yes Clucas.

He fucking loves Chester doesn't he. Most perplexing. Surely it makes sense - Souttar goes back in the middle and Chester is a good organiser which is helpful for the two younger CBs. Also those three are decent with the ball at their feet so we are less likely to resort to the ball lumped forward which was an issue earlier in the season. Batth is a bit bit unlucky as I thought he played well Saturday but that backline looks better balanced to me.

Wonder if Chester will line up on the left or right of the 3? Presumably Souttar will go back to being the central one of the 3? I expect Chester to be on the left with Souttar in the middle.

Interesting/surprising to see Ince on the bench ahead of McClean. He said yesterday McLean and Fox weren't ready.

Good to see O'Neill putting form before reputation. Then what is Chester doing in the team?

Clucas "slight calf injury" according to McKinlay
Chester "fit again, so he comes back in"

I'd have Lindsay over Chester.

Good to see O'Neill putting form before reputation. Then what is Chester doing in the team? Chester hasn't been playing that badly this season - fortunately O'Neill watches what is happening on the pitch rather than rehashing prejudices.

I'm just happy Fletcher and Campbell are both starting at home.

Effectively playing with 10 men with that useless lump Chester. The modern day Marc Wilson, a calamity per game. Wilson was a better player for us than Chester to be fair.

More important than the change at the back is that the impressive triumvirate of Powell Fletcher and Campbell all start.

Thompson played very well in this position when we played 343 against Villa.
I suggested on Saturday, that when we play this formation, he might actually be more suited to the roll than Clucas.
Fingers crossed he has a similar performance tonight.

I’d rather verlinden on the bench over ince. He’s had a couple of games for the u23s now so he’s getting close

That's a decent team.
Huge fan of Clucas but he's started the season slowly. Hopefully he can rest up and Thompson's recent form continues.
Don't mind Chester coming in for Batth. Another who hasn't really hit the ground running but there's a player in there somewhere. The main positive is the two young lads keep their place.
And I hope Campbell is up there with Fletcher with Powell in behind and the wing backs provide the width rather than Powell and Campbell as wingers.
Should be within a point of the play-offs by 10pm. We've not started the season that well but we're nicely positioned.

No clucas, that a big call given he’s been our captain this season.
It’s the right call although we do need his goals at the moment (not that he’s scored any)
Chester for Batth is a weird one but 🤷♂️

It’s a long season and we are interchanging the two older Centre halves to organize the youngsters. Dropping the youngsters would be weird

If that's what happens, I think that's better than what we fielded v luton. Chester is way more comfortable defending in wider positions than Batth and it gets Souttar back into middle. With height of souttar and Collins, it helps cover Chester's deficiencies aerially as well. With chester on left, its arguably our best balanced back 3. Edit - I expect chester will be on right of the 3 though

Don’t underestimate Barnsley. They gave a good account of themselves against Bristol City and have shown a bit of fight so far this season.

Don’t underestimate Barnsley. They gave a good account of themselves against Bristol City and have shown a bit of fight so far this season. Thought they'd do well this season but they've not had the best start, yet to win, and their manager who did so well last year gone. We should be beating teams like this.
