Technically illegal still in this backward country of ours. But I'm currently touring Anglesey on mine. In Chester where i work they've recently cut large chunks of two lane ring-road sections back to single lane and installed cycle paths instead, which are largely empty because they haven't adopted a scooter scheme alongside. Car travel is getting slower by the day. My scooter is now twice as fast as my car for getting around the city. Any other 50 somethings out there got one ?... what's the verdict - passing fad or the future of personal travel ?

Find it difficult to understand why we can use ebikes but not escooters. I would have thought in a congested city escooters are safer as they are easier to extricate yourself from in the event of impending collision.

My scooter is limited to 15mph and has amazing brakes, plus it has a much smaller turning circle than a bike, and i can hop off it very quickly as you say. I've not even come close to having any collisions so far. I took it up to south stack yesterday, nobody had a bad word to say about it.

Any pics of them at all, sounds like one would be great for my modest commute.

I love a mad tour on an unusual choice of vehicle I looked into those Segway models a while back. They look great fun

You have to pedal to make it work. The power assist is a bit like power steering. Motor cuts out at 15mph

Probably because they are a powered vehicle in the same way as a car so laws not changed yet to fully accept them on the road Mobility scooters are different having a lower speed E bikes are different because they have similar speeds to non e bikes and can be controlled and stopped the same and are governed by the Highway Code and laws can be applied to cyclists. I fully understand that a bike could do the same ddd as mage as an e scooter on impact

Great fun yes... But where would you put your suitcase? 👀😁 Maybe you can get tiny panniers for them?! I've a vw T5 camper for sleeping in and carrying the luggage, that's one of the pluses of the scooter - fold it up and chuck it in the back - no expensive bike rack taking time to load and unload. I can even charge the scooter from the leisure battery, and just use a rucksack to carry camera, lunch, waterproof etc. I'm writing a blog about all of this - will post the link when it's done.

Fantastic mate. Souls like a great setup! Enjoy the tour Here’s hoping you don’t get marooned there (or maybe that would be quite nice actually )

From what I’ve read the government are looking at bringing the escooter in line with the ebikes. Not sure what would need to happen for that but hopefully it will happen soon.

Do you have to wear a helmet for one and not the other or for both? You’re not legally required to wear a helmet for either I don’t think

A paragraph from the OECD Build Back Better website " Active transport modes and micro-mobility (e.g. electric scooters, bike sharing schemes) will be key to prevent a big shift from public transport to the car; supporting them with both investment and road reallocation is also important. R&D support could focus therefore in innovations around electric micro-mobility rather than exclusively on electric cars." Even though BBB isn't some sort of global goal in the rubble of a virus.

Do you have to wear a helmet for one and not the other or for both? With e-scooters not yet legal there's no rules on helmet wearing. I don't wear one myself.

They are all over Newcastle under lyme, at the side of the roads in special bays to hire. I've seen people riding them around on the ring road without helmets.
From what I understand its a scheme run by staffordshire County Council.
I did see a guy walking through knutton with running with one over his shoulder as well hahahaha

Can’t see it taking off somehow.

AroundAngleseaOnAnE-Scooter.com? 🐑💨 Mate of mine in London has one, its quicker than both the bus and tube from his house in Covent Garden to his office near Oxford Circus. He's been stopped twice in the last year I think when riding it but the second time the copper just wanted to know the make and model!
