RIP - POMO may have done for him in the end, but before that he produced a very attractive football team at Stoke. Thanks for the pleasure they brought to me as a young kid on the Boothen.

Produced a really good flowing football team and then for some bizarre reason decided to change tack and threw it all away RIP

Very sad. I remember the excitement of going to the games before he went crazy on deliberately bypassing one of the best midfields (IMHO - I was only a kid) around at the time. Lots of good memories.
Rest In Peace.

RIP Richie Barker.
MY first full season was the holocaust season but I went to a few games under Barker, all I ever remember was he turned a relatively free flowing team in 82/83 into a bunch of kick and rush merchants in 83/84 before getting sacked. It was strange.....

The last Stoke manager to get any kind of result away at Arsenal.
For a brief moment his football was as good as anything we've seen at Stoke, but he got the idea into his head that a club like Stoke couldn't compete in the First Division playing a brand of football that got us as high as fifth in the league at one point.

I have a real fondness of that 82/83 season. I had been to a few games before then but that is the first season i can remember properly being 9 years old.
Some great football and quality players. Rest easy Richie.

RIP Richie, sad news indeed. Was it Richie that introduced him and Sammy Chung sitting on opposite sides of the touchline? Think that was Mick Mills mate Bill Asprey was Richie's assistant

In the panini sticker books was a pic of Sammy Chung at Wolves with a comment- the club refuse to give his age in his profile section. For years as a kid i thought something very odd was going on and he was about 104 or something

Anyone remember the O'Callaghan goal on MOTD where Richie is barking orders at him, he then took the ball down and tidy finish and Barker jokingly pointing at himself taking the credit, Pretty sure was at Maine Rd

How different would our history have been if he had never learned about POMO?
But a good man and a good coach - POMO apart, of course!

Really good guy. When he got the sack, he invited the press to have a drink with him at the ground before he left. Good coach POMO excepted
