Simply awesome stoke that was. Mikel misplaced one pass in the whole game, he is getting better every game and with Thompson with him we retain possession much better They both played really well with and without the ball.

The Good thing is a run like this early on gives out bloated squad a chance for many players instead of simmering without playing. Transfer Window around the corner should hopefully see more out and then only league games until December. Happy squad winning teams - lets hope we can get the balance of players ok so not too many disgruntled players. For now well done Stoke players and well done MON It might not be so bad to have a *fairly* bloated squad for once (not you, Wimmer) as the games are relentless even just in the league it's Weekend/Midweek all the way.

From seemingly nowhere we have Collins, Souttar, Tymon, Thompson, TOB, Brown and Campbell all looking the part. MON’s tough love seems to have paid off. Until you read bayern's ramblings, when you realise that MON is actually hopeless and should have resigned long ago in favour of bayern himself! Actually Bayern has been plugging Souttar and Collins at the expense of Batth and Chester, while pointing out that Brown is at least an option for Smith. I don’t agree with his assessment of Davies, but otherwise O’Neill seems to have gone with Bayern’s defense tonight. Credit where credit’s due.

Simply awesome stoke that was. Mikel misplaced one pass in the whole game, he is getting better every game and with Thompson with him we retain possession much better That was as good a Stoke passing performance we've seen for five years. Everyone in the team looked comfortable and confident on the ball.

Brilliant win and superb performance across the board. Hope MON dares to be bold and continue this team (especially the back 3) into the league games as well.
Quarter finals here we come !

The thing is MON has decided on a core way to play and both squads know how to play in it. That's a huge advantage for the squad size. Tonight for the first time they not only started to enjoy it but they were able to react to Villa's changes 2nd half, he moved a couple of deck chairs around, matched them up and it still worked. Game management 2nd half without the ball was great. I think he wanted a platform to build on and it's paying dividends. 4 clean sheets away from home. Just starting to see how it can become expansive without leaving us open. This is a real milestone for me I really think we've moved forward tonight. I've got my football club back. Having two attacking wingbacks makes such a difference.

Six clean sheets in seven games. If we can somehow get our scoring boots on from the end of last season...yeah baby!

Yes but you could equally argue that MON has brought the players along at a rate which gave them the best chance of succeeding. We all have different opinions on players, formations etc. What annoys me about bayern (apart from the constant repetition) is that he has often said MON is a poor manager which he quite clearly is not.

Yes, that wouldn’t be a statement that I could support either. I think MO’n will ultimately be successful with Stoke, which is all that counts. I said it after our game against Millwall, but I think he will be more along the lines of Durban than Macari; it doesn’t matter if the end result is achieved.

It's amazing what a bad manager can achieve in less than 12 months and only spending about 2 million pounds. I'm surprised the O Neill out bandwagon hasn't taken off.

Like anyone outside the top 7/8 once you get into the squad players not so much. But you'll be fine this season, all the best......

I was really impressed by some of the passing out of defence tonight.
A few had my heart in my mouth, but they were slide rule perfect.
Well done the defence.
The young players are really excelling. Every credit to MO'N and his coaching team. Can't praise them enough.
We created loads of chances with numerous crosses awry. With a bit more accuracy and better finishing we could have had a bag full of goals. When it starts clicking together someone is going to get murdered. Hope it is Brum!

I really enjoyed tonight. I hope MON can see the difference. Each time he has started up with Stoke he has been conservative but so far, each time, he has ventured out, found something that worked and stuck with it. We've got a decent squad now. Some great options. He just needs to let go and set them up right.
