Back to back wins, I've a bad feeling they may escape league 4 this season? Stoke-on-Trent is big enough for two professional clubs. Are Stoke supporters big enough? I'd say it's big enough for two clubs.

Seems a very expensive way of doing things?
I like a DOF route tbh but at the minute when finances are tight an extra big wage on the payroll seems a bit daft.

Fair play to their owners. They've realised that they know very little about running a club from the football side, after their only appointment that has failed, so have appointed someone in a role alongside them that knows more than they do. It might be an odd choice for a DOF, but they say the first step is always the hardest and they've made it.
Well done to them for realising that modern football has changed.

It has but finance wise it seems a bit silly? Ideally I wanted us to appoint a technical director first who then appointed a manager to play the football we want to play as a club and dictates that from u7s to seniors but it wasn’t possible for what we needed. So I get from a football perspective and it’s totally right to employ one before the manager. That’s not the illogical side of it to me. I just didn’t think they’d be able to afford to do it.

Financially is it better to spend on a good brain up top than to keep on repeating mistakes that might see them out of the league? Essentially they have their own version of Denise owning and running the club, and rather than do it all old skool they've realised they can't and need someone accountable alongside them who knows football more than a bean counter ever will.

It depends how fucked they are because of the pandemic imo. John Rudge helps them in some capacity already doesn’t get? So it’s not like they haven’t got a football brain to call on. I think it’s they way clubs should go for sure and is appointing a manager before a recruitment team didn’t feel right to me and still doesn’t tbh. But we didn’t have much choice with our actual position. I don’t know, seems like an unnecessary expense in a difficult time. Or an excuse to give Danny Pugh the job on peanuts? Which could work, who knows.

with Flitcroft upstairs, it opens the door to some of the more left-field rumours doing the rounds, eg Tom Pope as Manager-Coach, one of the Shanahan children as Manager CEO etc

Where is it said the Coates family lent them money for Port Vale ? I'm not saying it isn't true but I can't take the piss at work if it's rumour

I’m sure somebody will be along soon enough to debunk this myth!

He certainly talks the talk. Seems like they've realised going nowhere and decided to go down this route. If they can get it right they you only have to look at how clubs in our division have rose.

What sort of income would a 'Director of Football' expect to pull down in the 4th flight of English football?
And would it be more or less than the coach/manager they will appoint to work alongside him?
Just genuinely curious.

It'll be Pugh with Flitcroft as a mentor.
The best option would've been McGreal but he'll probably have an eye on the Bradford job if it's still going.

I’m sure somebody will be along soon enough to debunk this myth! I have a few Vale friends who are local business men and they too are of the belief that she had a loan off Denise. Listening to Flitcroft on radio Stoke it seems to me he was interviewed for the managers job and talked his way into this DOF and reading between what he's saying he's having his cake and eating it, he basically is calling the the shots through out and if it goes tits up on the pitch it will down to the coach/manager while he sits back and takes the money! Of course it could all work out swimmingly!
