Of course we're contenders. We're riding off to the greed league, on a Michael O'Neill shaped horse!

Preston get a good write up 😂
I can’t see Bournmouth doing much
Norwich must be favourites
Watford are mental and could pay the price for lack of stability
I’m quietly confident for Stoke. God willing.

To be honest we have been tipped for promotion ever since we went down.
The main difference this time is we have a manager that we can all trust in. But it could still go tits up knowing Stoke over the years.

Wow it must have taken the Guardian 'journo' about 10 minutes to put that together so no surprise it's a lazy assessment. Having said that I took a look at the BBC sports website and there isn't a single article regarding the start of the Championship, maybe they will realise that the champ season starts tonight at some time today. In fact there is more coverage of the wonderful women's game. Can anyone point me to a UK online site that concentrates on Championship football rather than Premier league? Ta

Not The Top 20 Pod have done a podcast preview, about an hour and a half long and giving a 1-24 prediction whilst they were at it. Yet to listen but planning to on my commute home this afternoon.

Thanks spit for info much appreciated. Does seem odd considering the popularity of the championship and the size of many of the clubs that it doesn't get more coverage. I'm trying to think back, even in the Prem did we used to get that much coverage? Football journalism is just so obsessively focussed on the top 6 Prem teams. From my perspective I always think that I am never going to access the level of detail about Stoke that we find on this forum. If there is anything out there about Stoke it seems to be unearthed by someone of this forum. When you think about it, its like there is a team of 'researchers' active on this board all of the time and the discussions about issues such as the way the club is managed, tactics, individual players, past players, history etc are detailed here to an extent that it always seems like any article written about Stoke by an 'outsider' is going to seem superficial to most of us and often under-researched. I know this is a bit off topic because you were referring to season previews for the Championship!

Our Premier League existence gets mentioned more in the media since we got relegated than it did when we were in it!

To be honest the Premier League predictions on BBC are just as bad. www.bbc.com/sport/football/5408163624 pundits asked for their top 4 for the season and they ALL choose from just 5 teams. The usual suspects - Man City, Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal Incredibly safe and boring predictions. I actually fancy Leicester to be up there with a realistic chance. Also Everton have made some solid signings and have a chance under Ancelloti. Also Wolves & and Sheff Utd I wouldnt rule out. There is absolutely no guarantee Man Utd and Arsenal will finnish top 4.

I like this. Thanks for posting. There is such a difference between podcasts featuring enthusiastic, well researched fans and on the other hand ex-footballers, who tend to do sweet FA research and just think their experience is enough to make interesting. the enthusiasm for Stoke makes me very nervous though

No problem, I think the best thing about it is they treat all the clubs pretty fairly with regards to coverage. If you listen to the weekly one once the season has started they take a decent look at each game on the sunday pod.

I think Leicester may suffer a bit this season and drop a bit but reckon Wolves will definitely be challenging for top six. It’s a massive season for Everton and Ancelotti. Anything less than European qualification would be a disappointment with the signings they made. Can’t see Sheffield United in the top half after Henderson leaving. Got a feeling Leeds will be pushing for Europe with Everton and Wolves. Apart from that I can see Spurs going into meltdown under Mourinho.

I don't feel comfortable at all with us being tipped for automatic promotion To be honest that does seem improbable Play offs us an acheivable target (personally I think we will fall just short of that) but top 2 seems over the horizon as defence isn't string enough consistently. But it's the Championship so almost everyone has a chance

Completely depends which Watford turn up given their squad.
If they do, it'll be them and Norwich comfortable top 2 imo!

I have not seen good coverage of the EFL in the national press for years.
I used to get the 'Telegraph' the friday before the season started in the late 90s/ early 00's as it had a summary of all clubs plus their transfer business which in those days you heard little about except for clubs in your local area.
I can never remember a time clubs outside top flight football got good coverage. The second tier got match reports but a paragraph summaries on football below that level.

It's amazing to think that in the 70s highlights programmes like the Big Match used to have Division 2 games as their main match in an age when there wasn't very much TV coverage. (don't mind me, I'm just old!)

Can anyone point me to a UK online site that concentrates on Championship football rather than Premier league? Ta I'd advise you to ditch the mainstream media and to find people on youtube instead. A lot of channels on there have a specific championship/football league focus. Maybe these creators have spotted the gap in the market that the MSM is neglecting? This guy is my favourite but there's a bunch of channels doing similar. Tyrese made it into his top 10 young players to watch.
