Do we still have a large following? Is it the same as when we choose our team ,that's it ,through thick and thin.or are they prone to change teams when we drop from premier?I like to think they got the Stoke bug and are stuck with it but they never seem to get a mention in local press anymore. Anyone know I'm genuinely interested

I've heard that we are no longer a special team for icelanders. We have about as little supporters there like the other Championship clubs but hats off to those though who still follow us there!

There's a similarity in our appointing MON - seems to have brought a lot of interested fans from Northern Ireland Interest from Iceland came because we recruited Gudjon and signed a few Icelandic players, as we have now with NI players. When O'Neill moves onto Barcelona or Juventus, or whatever his next job is, I'd expect N Irish fans to forget us and go with him.

I remember a few of them started with Larus and Toddy, Gudjon used to like coming over to watch them mid 90s hence the takeover, I remember them being around til about 2005/2006 but as said when the Icelandics gradually left so did that element of our support, quite a lot. Of family of the icelandic players used to come over a fair bit too.
On a side note where did the Dutch Stokies get there link and when did they start coming over.

My guess, and it’s only a guess based on witnessing them in pubs and the club shop on match days, is that our Scandinavian fan base goes, in order of total numbers:
Norway Sweden Denmark Iceland Finland (probably none, but I’ve included them for statistical purposes😎).

I asked the question because the Sentinel always had a story about the following from Iceland, and I know of couple of Icelandic supporters who have followed Stoke since the 1970s.Not least 2 of the guys from the pop group A HA. (I WOULD NOT NORMALLY BELIEVE THIS BUT HEARD IT WITH MY OWN EARS FROM THE LEAD SINGER)So they started supporting early seventies when we played attractive football but stuck with us because they are stoke fans through the years of shit that followed .What I don't know is are these Icelanders that spent so much money following Stoke now following other clubs? Surely most of those guys can't just switch clubs after the passion shown following Stoke and the cash spent.I find it strange

A-ha. The classic "take on me " was a homage to Mark chamberlain as the lead vocalist morten was a decent left back and as we know chambo did a lot taking on in 84 and not so much in 85 when it was released hence the melancholy video..
