I never realised how much Marseille hate PSG until I saw those street parties when they lost the CL final

Everton- Liverpool is a bit like Leeds-ManU. It’s generally one way hate with the other set of fans focusing more on other rivals who they take more seriously.

Here’s a shout - Blackburn and Burnley. How many of us have been to Burnley and listened to their fans directing their bile against ‘Bastard Rovers’ rather than us, the opposition of the day?

The Sheffield Derby is another one. Similar size clubs, similar fan bases and history. I know Blades and Owls and they despise each other. Always trouble when they play

?? Really? Hasn't it always been known as the friendly derby? They have a very unifying scouse identity, then the shared tragedy of Hillsborough. I'd have said that's one of the least hate-filled rivalries in the country.. It’s a myth They do come together in adversity but when it’s football it’s utter hatred No way,
I remember doing a double take when I walked into the Gladwys for my first Merseyside derby (Pre all seater), to see a 50/50 mix of blue and red scarves, my fears were totally unfounded. If there is animosity then it usually appeared hours later in city centre pubs when alcohol and baiting eroded all the goodwill.

Sheff U fans call Wednesdayites "The Pigs".
And Sheff Wed fans call Blades fans....
.... "The Pigs"
(Not a very imaginative lot in those parts)
Meanwhle, Linfield and Glentoran can get a bit heated.
Glens fans think Linfield fans are all cunts.
While Linfield fans, well, are all cunts.

Stoke v Blackburn has always had a niggle, going back to the old division two in 78. Stoke did their chip shop and to my knowledge they've tried to repay the favour several times and not just chippy's either.

Maybe their hostility is a fairly recent thing,

The sheer hatred of Norwich held by Ipswich fans is something to behold. The feeling in Norfolk my neck of the woods is pretty mutual The old farm Derby is a thing to behold tends to kick off 12 o'clock Sundays now to mitigate the scuffles

It all comes down to perspective. I'd have Stoke/Vale in any top 5 in the UK. The majority of the 'top' UK derbies that the media harp on about are more spectacles now, they've been watered down.
When it comes to Europe, it does seem different. Then when you look at South America, it's another world of rivalry/hatred.
Difficult one on a world scale.

I met a big fat kid who was a diehard Linfield supporter on holiday when I was a kid. He was a loudmouth and called all the other (mostly English) kids “fenian scum” for a laugh. Took me a good few years to understand what he was on about.

I think if they ever come together, Partisan Belgrade v Red Star Belgrade. is one to be aware of. Some real history there, especially military and political.

Got talking about this at work today: if you were to list, in order, the worst five inter-club rivalries, specifically where the fans really hate each other with a passion beyond reason, what would be on your list. Either foreign or domestic or both. I think our top three out of both foreign and domestic came out as: 1. Celtic and Rangers 2. Fenerbahce(sp?) and Galatasaray 3. Boca Juniors and River Plate We couldn’t get a consensus on the next two, although Partizan Belgrade and Red Star, plus Barcelona and Real Madrid came close to completing the top five. Perhaps not too surprisingly, Stoke and Vale didn’t even make the top ten Barcelona-Real wouldn't even be in the top fifty. Spanish footballing rivalries are tame to non-existent. I agree on Madrid v Barca Sevlle v Betis is very tasty though.

Roma v Lazio was the communists vs the fascists back in the day. Boco v river plate is a good shout. Millwall v West ham has plenty of attention too now they're both fascists, Roma are just as right wing...
