I have the film of that last bottle oven firing on DVD and it's a fascinating watch.

Yay. Lets hear it for the Bottle Kiln. Part of our potteries heritage and they still cast a huge metaphorical shadow across the city. I have a big black and white framed photographic image of some bottle kilns on my study wall.

I looked at this commemorative event again after seeing the thread, and was perhaps surprised at the lack of apparent interest in the subject. Not being in the area it is understandable that such occasions seem to pass me be, but I think that there should be more local and national recognition of industrial archaeology such as the kilns. Many tourists and artists seem to be captivated by such iconic scenery as you get in Cornwall with the tin mine ruins, and we should be equally proud of our symbolic potteries heritage

I opened a thread on Bottle Kilns - maybe 12 months or so ago. EDIT: January 2019. It was also about Saggar Maker's Bottom Knockers! Just given it a nudge for new folks.

I work from home and amongst my skills as an historian and Antiques Professional, my preferred speciality is in North Staffordshire Pottery, hence the picture.
