Should go down well in the changing room if he comes here -
In the sixth minute of stoppage time during a 2-0 home defeat to would-be champions Celtic, Jones lashed out at Moritz Bauer, earning himself a straight red card and injurying his own knee in the process.
He would later phone the Celtic star to apologise for the tackle but it would take more to win the forgiveness of manager Gerrard, who fumed after the game:

Answer: Yes probably....though the fact that there are only about 20 Northern Irish playing professional football in the world these days might give some respite.

Yes.
Though it says something when even the bluffer masquerading as a "journalist" behind this was presumably too embarrassed to put his name to it.
The Belfast Telegraph and its sister Sunday Life are notorious for this sort of crap.
(And, he adds to cover himself, if Jones should sign for Stoke, then it won't reflect any great insight or knowledge on behalf of the Belly Telly, merely that if you throw enough darts, one of them will hit the board eventually.)

I prefer Martin Boyle to this one! Jones hardly scores goals at all, and as a winger that isn't very impressive. Boyle for me if I could choose between the two of them, no doubt about that!

looks like we should take Belfast media (or at least this paper) stories with big pinch of salt then explains the bizarre (i.e. not happening) link to Lewis at Norwich then

Who are the reliable news outlets in Northern Ireland that we should look out for?

Who are the reliable news outlets in Northern Ireland that we should look out for? Tbh, there aren't any I would recommend unreservedly, both because of the small-time nature of the media over there (for sport, at least), but also because with virtually all of NI's professional players and managers living and operating in GB, NI-based reporters don't always have good contacts, nor do the players or managers need to keep them sweet. For example when managing NI, Lawrie Sanchez hardly bothered to hide his contempt for the local press, since he knew that win, draw or lose, he'd be flying home to Berkshire the morning after each game.
Therefore you really need to see actual quotes from the players or managers involved, ideally with a "by"-line - and that Jordan Jones piece had neither.
It's different for local Irish League football, where the reporters are on-the-spot and can more usually be relied on.
(Thinking about it, Stephen Watson, who presented the Michael O'Neill film, is pretty reliable, but that's because he works for BBC NI, so isn't subject to the need to provide a headline for his Editor each day, so yeah, the Beeb is usually ok. Unfiortunately they're rarely first with the news, either!)

Mr. Liathroid, There are only a few of us who know Jack Byrne, and get to see him regularly. It is hard to rate the top-end of the League of Ireland, but Byrne is certainly the best player in the league over the past twelve months or so. He has all the brains and vision in the world, and has a wand of a right foot. My only reservation about him is his lack of pace, but he is so clever, I've never seen him caught. Would the extra pace and fitness of the Championship be his undoing? Also, would MO'N allow everything to go through him, the same way as happens at Rovers?
I'd have him at Stoke in a heartbeat. He's the right age (23/24?) and, let's not forget, he was the next big thing at Man. City a few years back. After losing his way for a spell, he is now finally fulfilling his huge potential.
In relative terms, he'd cost bugger all, in both fee and wages. He'd be worth bringing in for dead-balls alone.

Stoke City boss Michael O’Neill is keen to engineer a deal, having given Jones his international debut during his time as manager of Northern Ireland, while Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray has also discussed the possibility of taking the midfielder to Ewood Park.
However, Warnock is hoping to outflank his rivals by persuading Jones to return to his roots

If those clubs are in for him then it's a huge test for MON. He'll be going up against two very experienced league managers. You'd think all clubs will be offering similar packages.
Will MON win the battle?

Little bit of history for Jones. He is indeed a Teesside lad and was on Boro's books as a youth, though he never played for their 1st team. Had a couple of short loans at Hartlepool and Cambridge, before joing Kilmarnock, where he did well over three(?) seasons, eventually catching the eye of Rangers. I imagine his all-action style appealed to them - the lad has pace to burn and can cut in from either wing, a real fans' favourite. (The fact that he was cheap - some say a Free, others £350k - will also have appealed, seeing as they're potless.) But there must be reservations too. First, he represented NI's U-19's when still only 17 and in Boro's youth team (his Da's from NI). He must have done OK since they called him up for the U-21's. However he turned it down because he felt he might get a chance with England. And at Kilmarnock, when Rangers signed him on a pre-contract in January(?), he tweeted about what an honour it was to play for such a prestigious club etc, which upset Killie fans as being disrespectful, since he still had half a season to play for them. Then after a promising start at Ibrox, he blotted his copybook somehow, leading to Gerrard letting him go after his first season, when he still had two years left on his contract. As for NI, he repented his earlier rejection, meaning that Michael was prepared to give him a second chance: www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/international/i-regret-rejecting-northern-ireland-for-england-says-new-man-jordan-jones-36172250.htmlWith us, he played quite a bit for the senior team (8 caps) and looked very exciting at times, but I get the impression Michael then cooled on him a bit, though perhaps that was just injury/fitness? Anyhow, in that link above, the journo (normally a dick, btw) made the following comment, which I think may hold the key to Jones: "You get the sense he won't be overawed if he makes his international bow."That is, he's got the talent to play at Championship level, but he may be too full of himself to knuckle down and apply himself consistently through hard work? And if so (stress the "if"), while Michael had few options with NI, and so indulged a few of his players when necessary, I'm not sure he'd be prepared to do so at Stoke, where he will have some more latitude over who he picks or rejects? P.S. I'm not sure why I bothered typng all that since there's not been any reliable comfirmation from anyone that Stoke are actually interested.
