Little bit of history for Jones. He is indeed a Teesside lad and was on Boro's books as a youth, though he never played for their 1st team. Had a couple of short loans at Hartlepool and Cambridge, before joing Kilmarnock, where he did well over three(?) seasons, eventually catching the eye of Rangers. I imagine his all-action style appealed to them - the lad has pace to burn and can cut in from either wing, a real fans' favourite. (The fact that he was cheap - some say a Free, others £350k - will also have appealed, seeing as they're potless.) But there must be reservations too. First, he represented NI's U-19's when still only 17 and in Boro's youth team (his Da's from NI). He must have done OK since they called him up for the U-21's. However he turned it down because he felt he might get a chance with England. And at Kilmarnock, when Rangers signed him on a pre-contract in January(?), he tweeted about what an honour it was to play for such a prestigious club etc, which upset Killie fans as being disrespectful, since he still had half a season to play for them. Then after a promising start at Ibrox, he blotted his copybook somehow, leading to Gerrard letting him go after his first season, when he still had two years left on his contract. As for NI, he repented his earlier rejection, meaning that Michael was prepared to give him a second chance: www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/international/i-regret-rejecting-northern-ireland-for-england-says-new-man-jordan-jones-36172250.htmlWith us, he played quite a bit for the senior team (8 caps) and looked very exciting at times, but I get the impression Michael then cooled on him a bit, though perhaps that was just injury/fitness? Anyhow, in that link above, the journo (normally a dick, btw) made the following comment, which I think may hold the key to Jones: "You get the sense he won't be overawed if he makes his international bow."That is, he's got the talent to play at Championship level, but he may be too full of himself to knuckle down and apply himself consistently through hard work? And if so (stress the "if"), while Michael had few options with NI, and so indulged a few of his players when necessary, I'm not sure he'd be prepared to do so at Stoke, where he will have some more latitude over who he picks or rejects? P.S. I'm not sure why I bothered typng all that since there's not been any reliable comfirmation from anyone that Stoke are actually interested. Nice synopsis, sounds like the sort of player who just needs to grow up a bit.

Only opinion but I would much prefer Jordan Jones on the left and Boyle form Hibs on the right to provide more pace, guile, attacking intent and threatening balls into the box than the 2 incumbents Rowett and the transfer team spunked 16million on 2 years ago to be part of our attacking front 3 for immediate promotion. These 2 could probably be obtained for a fraction of that cost, but very unlikely to happen now as we are ruled by FFP. Something for the transfer team to reflect on.

As an NI fan, my fear is that considering Jones will be 26 in October, if he hasn't grown up by now, he may never do so?

It's a real shame that some talented young footballers just don't seem to grasp the oportunities they're offered, but I'm not one talk, I didn't realise what a dead I was til my early 30's 😆

(I'm guessing tbf)

Could well just be 2 and 2 making 5 with this link.
Can't say I've ever knowingly seen him play, but he's made very little impression in the game for a soon-to-be 26yo, has he? Not sure he seems the type who could really make an impression at the top end of this league
It's not one that would remotely thrill me based on what I've googled about him, even from his supposed best period at Kilmarnock - but MON has certainly earned the freedom to do what he wants.

Not to necro threads or anything but I keep seeing this guy linked with us again? Obviously because we were so heavily linked in the summer but reports are that they want him out on loan..... could be nice him on the Left, Matondo on the right with a nippy striker up front (cheeky Josh King bid?! ) Pace for days in the squad then we would be lethal counter attacking!
