6 clean sheets in 8 games for Davies now. bayernoatcake still thinks he should never play for the club ever again. The most amazing thing with this is that Davies has actually had very little to do since coming into the team. Don't get me wrong, what he's had to do, he's done well but we've gone from a team incapable of keeping the opposition away from our goal and gifting easy chances to giving them next to nothing.

Difference is he comes off his line really well and mops up balls that opposition would get to and have great chances of scoring. That’s the easy side for a goalie and he does it well. No doubt he’ll come out for one and the attacker will beat him to it one of these times but I’d take that on the back of the performances so far.

He is excellent at the edge of his box which starts to give the defence more confidence. We probably don’t get to hear what shouting he does either to the defence, but the fact he has little to do I think is because he is doing the basics better which supports the defence which in turn supports him. He will do for me right now and the shirt is his to lose.

I think O'Neil eluded to the fact that the defence like playing in front of him because he constantly talks to them. The spectator will not see this action, but its a big part of defending that makes a massive difference,as has been proved.

Just shocked it took so long to put him in.
Something must have happened under Jones.

It's the hardest part of being a goalkeeper and what separates the best from the good He clearly communicates better with the defenders than Butland and reads the game. It's one of those positions, like CB, where you can see the shape of the team. It's no coincidence that the clean sheets come with his better communication. Keepers don't want to have to save shots and defenders need someone they totally trust behind them. Add these clean sheets to his record before he signed and it seems to me that he understands what MON needs the shape to be and helps enforce that on the pitch.

I'd say the biggest thing is he's given the team confidence. We now have the confidence that our goalkeeper can and will deal with any problems and so the team is feeding off that and has improved their performances.

That's a trite opinion that could apply to every player on our books - and every other club in this and every other country. If it didn't, then transfers wouldn't be needed.

Was pretty poor for their first.
You've got to come and get that ball or at least punch it.

Was pretty poor for their first. You've got to come and get that ball or at least punch it. It was a real team effort, a collective fuck up from about four players, including Davies. It’s the first real mistake he’s made since coming into the side so I can cut him some slack.

The defending for the first goal (well both goals actually!) was shambolic.
Davies had a good game. Least of our issues today.

I'm not sure Batth, Chester, Smith, BMI or Davies covered themselves in glory on the 1st goal to be honest.

He seems to allude to playing 3 CBs as we have a lot of them in the squad but plays a system that relies on wingback without having wingbacks! Both Fox and Smith are fullbacks, best played in a flat 4.

Are we forgetting we should have been down 1 nil after 10 to 15 minutes if it was not Davies.
Davies was not the cause of the defeat.

What I have liked in terms of Davies is because he sweeps up well it has allowed the defence to hold a higher line which in turn allows us to press higher and turn over the ball in more attacking areas. When we have pace in the team this also allows the transitions between attack and defence to happen much quicker and should get us in behind opposition defences better.
