Curious signing in a Karanka side...

Duffy had a good few previous seasons and seemed a good signing. The fact he's now in League One might say a lot. I can't remember the last time we had a successful loan player. Victor Moses? I suppose BMI was a success in his loan season, but the successes seem to be the exception in recent years. Pulis used loans to great effect in the Championship, so I'm hoping we pull something good out of the bag. A top-quality loan signing could be the difference between playoffs/no playoffs or even promotion or not. We seem to sign them after the season has started and we've shit the bed. Moses, BMI and Assaidi off the top of my head in recent years. We've chronically underused them in the Champo to our own detriment. All I remember about assaidi is him being quite good, scoring that belter against Chelsea ( good mental that) and then just disappearing off the face of the earth

Digging it up. Scored again. His stats are good over many seasons, 1 in 3ish ain’t bad. I think he was in a poisonous squad and just didn’t click. Good luck to him.

Glad this popped up again, just logged on to start a new thread on Hogan, saved me the effort.
I see he scored tonight
Hopefully there’ll be a new thread on Afobe and Bojan tomorrow, I’ll draft some thoughts tonight and hope they’re both on target tomorrow
Fuck our current lots of strikers, can’t be arsed to see how they go on

Derby were piss poor at the back. Their keeper was a liability

If he was any good he’d have bagged a hat trick tonight. They were all over the shop.

I took a bit of an interest in Derby as we play them next week and it was interesting watching Ravel Morrison. Still only 28 and really should be showing flashes of the talent he had as a teenager at this level but was pretty awful in truth. It's now nailed on he will produce the goods against us!!!

Derby were always going to get caught tonight the way they were passing the ball around at the back. Agree above re Jagielka and Davies. Chong is some player.

I don’t get the obsession with players that have left tbh.
Especially most of the ones that have gone in the last 5 years.
We should all be happy that we can’t remember this bloke ever playing for us and it’s now been dragged up for what purpose? It’s very strange.

Remember seeing Chong in action for Man U 23's v ourselves at the Bet365 just prior to lockdown taking hold. He looked some player then, was sat just in front of his family that night. They said on last night's match the link for Chong signing for Blues was Craig Gardner & Darren Fletcher. Pity Fletchers links with Stoke couldn't of nabbed him for us on loan, I'm convinced he'd of been a worthwhile addition for us, as he would have for any club in this league, Blues have definitely signed a good'n there. Potentially he could be the difference between them having a top 10 finsh & being lower half.

I might have typed ‘pillock’. I won’t have commented either way if he got a hatrick or failed to score NB I’m fully aware of the irony that I have now (by default) ‘commented’ on a thread on the subject of Saido

You want your forward players these days to be more than tap-in merchants, they’ve got to have more of an all-round game.

When he got 14 in 25 for Brentford, it’s pretty fine to just be a “tap-in merchant”. At 7 in 33 for Birmingham last season, it’s much less justifiable.

And yea he doesn’t offer an awful lot more but goals is something we’ve had in short supply so you have to make concessions at our level and budget. Top all round strikers who score play at a higher level 🤷🏽♂️

Looked a trickier player altogether, seem to recall him being able to run at players. Not sure what happened to that player but these days I don’t think you can play with a passenger who might wake up and scuff one in if he gets a chance.

Top all round strikers who score play at a higher level 🤷🏽♂️ He looked unfit and uninterested for us. We needed everyone to be on it and for the forwards to play their role in creating chances too. We didn’t do that with him in the team. Also think there are strikers at this level who score and have an all round game. Toney last season was the obvious example but again, Tyrese was doing that for us. Surridge I think has the potential to do that with his pressing and the way he played Clucas in at Swansea.
