I don't get what went wrong. In that interview, Hughes mentions the steel of the Pulis side and says all teams need that. Yet why didn't he replace that steel? Was Bardsley a Hughes signing? Other than that he went for ball players

Three 9th places compared to plodding along between 11th and 15th every season with good cup runs. I prefer the latter because we would still be in the top division and could well have won some silverware by now. Of course you do, nothing more an old Stokie likes than a barrowload of medicrity. Absolute no chance Pulis winning a trophy. Everytime he came up against a top team we were beaten.

It appears that our demise is all about Nzonzi and Arnie in my book. Two key players never replaced, Arnie was disappointing as Hughes gave him his best chance, which he took and then put two fingers up at Hughes and Stoke because he was an ambitious but greedy twat. Nzonzi left as a natural career progression - fair play to him. One of my favourite memories of that last season is Hughes screaming ‘you ungreatful c*nt’ at Arnie as he was taken off.

Hughes ability is to go into a club, recognise what needs to be corrected to improve the team, make those changes and see improved results. In our case he came in, brought in FBs and creative talent and after a few months the improvement followed. Hughes weakness is he cannot rebuild a team/squad, he lacks discipline and just lets things drift, he brings in players who lack personal qualities like commitment to the club, good time keeping, give 100%. He did find one or two like Joe Allen, but most of his signings after the first 2 years were very poor.

He was able to bring in a calibre of player we'd never seen before - consistently. Is that a joke? Imbula, Berahino, Wimmer, Jesse, Boney. Not sure if Ndaiye was his signing. Yes he did bring in good players as well but the signing of imbula, Berahino and Wimmer for an eye watering £50m contributed massively to our demise imo. You're slightly missing my point: under he we had access to plays we just didn't have before. I never said he got them all right.
