He's the only player that would lose a foot race against Bruno Martins Indi.
Tony Scholes to be blamed for this one. "What's the situation?"

I knew we were doomed as soon as I saw his name on the team sheet. He’s crap, but he wasn’t signed by Scholes (unpopular opinion I know).

It was Tony Scholes that arrogantly dismissed the problem of lacking a functioning LB in March though. Every game since we've conceded pretty much every goal from down the left... Scholes out.

Yep, Nathan Jones promised us attacking flowing football and exciting young players. Next thing we know, he’s unveiling Ward and Vokes. Only at Stoke City.

Before the game started I commented that Ward was as slow as an old carthorse, by half time I had apologised to the carthorse. Hopefully this guy's contract was NOT extended beyond the last day of June and we have seen the last of him. He made Bruno look like a world beater and, if I'm honest, I wouldn't want to see Bruno starting again as a left back either. Says it all really, we have been crying out for a DECENT left back for ages and it never gets addressed. We've papered over the cracks and it's really biting us in the bum big time. I accept we have a defence (keeper included), a midfield and an attack that are all in need of major surgery but it has to start with a proper left back.

I actually wanted him to play ahead of BMI but it is a bit like choosing between a slap around the face or a kick in the balls.

He managed to sign those types of players at Luton, yet didn't here? He's gone back to Luton and got those players firing again at a much higher level than previously. Jones made mistakes for sure but surely now everyone, even a blind man, can see that maybe there is more to this than meets the eye? I tried to make the argument in the summer that when Jones went from trying to sign James Justin and ended up with Stephen Ward that maybe there was some kind of restriction at the higher echelons of the club - be it budget at the time, or scouting or whatever. We saw it with Mark Hughes when he tried to sign Cedric Soares - lost him to Southampton and ended up with Glen Johnson. The club has a comparative budget akin to Harrods yet we run it like Poundland. It's disgraceful.

What's even more baffling is how we cant sign a player like Justin, but we can spunk £9m on Vokes and pay him stupid wages. It's not the budget, it's the piss poor management of funds and transfers.

In one of Roy Keanes inteverviews he says Stephen Ward.... please don’t get me started! And leaves it like that! So I think I will.
I actually don’t blame Ward. I blame the manager for picking him when he clearly is an embarrassment to football.

Is Ward out of contract or will it be extended for another season. I seem to remember when he was signed there was a clause for an extension if he played a certain number of games. Maybe it's a bit premature to wish him bon voyage.

It’s truly laughable that Jones signed him to play in a system that required full backs to play such a big role.
No doubt he’s been a half decent player in the past but he was long done before the start of the season. He’s been absolutely terrible if every game bar none.

It’s beyond a joke. It's a funny old thing. Why can Jones do the business at Luton, and Rowett at Millwall, and both were abject failures here? It's as if at those relatively minor clubs, they as managers have to make do with what they've got, and can concentrate on what they're good at: coaching! Whereas with us they have to make marquee signings and are given larger sums than they've ever had before or will have again (Rowett was given huge amounts of money for a CL club, no other club offered/paid as much. Jones by comparison was given less, but still more than he'd ever had on his hands). About 20 players came in under that exercise, and you can't name a single one who has been a success or even played well last night or, ffs, even bothered trying.

The "he can't be worse than Indi" crew before this game were annoying me.
How can you forget how bad he is?
He literally can't run. Ward is about the last name that should have been on the teamsheet last night.

And still for me last night is on MON. I'm not sure how anyone can expect that team he put out last night to play any differently?

His performance last night was one of them ones where an aging player realises that their legs are long gone and they retire at half time.
It wasn't just one tricky winger that had the beating of him either, which is forgivable for a fullback at our level every now and then, about 4 players dribbled past him with ease at various stages. And sometimes they didn't have to dribble past him because he inexplicably wasn't there, like for their first goal.
Never seen so many unchallenged sidefoot passes into the area. All from his position.
