It's probably the wrong week to say it, but Powell has done even better than I hoped for, although I was actually pleased that Jones at least got us one good player.
His injury record is much better than feared, and he has been hugely influential in the sort of escape we were getting to before the corona break.
He will be both missed and cursed in equal parts for the next game.

Last night I watched the re-run of Wales magnificent 3-1 defeat of favourites Belgium in the Euros quarter finals with Joe Allen, Ashley Williams, James Chester and Sam Vokes all playing a key role, and 2 of them scoring very good goals. Difficult to believe the contrast between that and what has happened at Stoke in the last couple of years.

The last time we signed a player that turned out to be better than expected would be Etebo for me. I didnāt know what to expect when it was announced but he showed at the world cup and to some extent with us that he is a real player. I have no idea as to whether he will feature in a stoke city shirt again but I think he deserves a shout. Obviously players like Etherington, Whitehead, Faye, Arnie spring to mind also.

Clucas maybe.
Choupo-Moting was better than I thought he'd be tbh.
Etebo improved massively in his time here too. He looked naive in the World Cup but especially this season he started to show signs of discipline and positional sense.

An interesting question and I was trying to think of a player since relegation who has turned out to be better than expected.
In every case I was looking for either a bit of guile for this division or some lower league prospect who would grab the opportunity with both hands.
Such have my expectations been recalibrated that I'm now just pleased if they make it onto the pitch before kick off without tripping over their own laces.

Not really shit but I didn't think he'd score 5 goals in his debut PL season tbh. I think he did ok/well tbh but obviously was replacing an outstanding player and for that job wasn't to scratch. As a stand alone debut season in a foreign league, it was perfectly sound.

Choupo Moting is a funny one, he was actually better than I expected but as with a lot of players in the last few years he was just a bit of a couldnāt give a fuck idiot. You donāt get signed by PSG if youāre shit no matter how odd everyone thought it wasš¤·š»āāļø

Shows how low Stoke expectations are, 5 goals in a season, classed as playing 'well' from a forward player.....

In our prime in the PL, the most League goals in a season from a single player was 11. He did ok.

Five goals is a decent return from a wide player in a non-top-6 team in the PL.

Thought he played as a left player of a front 3, rather than a wide player, it's an ok total, but hardly better than expected.

Sorro was a master stroke. Was our 4th choice I seem to remember. Thank God we never got Carson.

Mark Stein. After a bang average loan spell, he turned into The Golden One.
