Was wracking my brains over tea and cannot recall the last time we signed a player that has proved better value for money than what we paid for him, under TP most players out punched their weight such as Whelan, Huth, Delap, Bego,Zonz, Fuller etc....... and to a degree we had some under Hughes such as Arnie and to a lesser degree Shaq. However when was the last time we actually bought a player that has proved a hit!!! Think you have to go back to perhaps Lee Grant
Thought??

Arnie or Bojan.
Arnie had a reputation of being a maverick. A 'bad boy'. Full of swagger but at least was able to transfer his cockiness into great performances.
Bojan had been flitting around Europe. Dropped from the Barca squad thanks to Messi's rise, spells at Ajax, AC Milan and Roma and seemingly couldn't settle down. Seemed like he was going nowhere fast. Comes to Stoke and re captures his form and we looked bloody tasty with Him, Arnie and Shaq. Such a shame it ended how it did with him here. But deffo those two magic years we had of him were way better than I expected of him.

He was before Arnie but I want to give a special mention to N'Zonzi. I had no idea just how good this guy was when we signed him.

Seconded - thought he would be a stropper who wouldnt give two shits. I was wrong, just a shame he did his ACL, which killed him as a pace player.

Probably Odemwingie. Knew he used to be good but thought he'd be past it and wasn't expecting much. We managed to get an impressive swansong out of him before an injury finished him off.
Since then though pretty much every player has either been worse than expected or as shit as expected. Including Shaqiri and Joe Allen.

Etebo is loads worse than I expected him to be I think he would have done better than the piss weak midfield we put out today. He probably would but I do recall him being fawned over when he stuck to Messi like a limpit in the World Cup and people were questioning his reasons for joining Stoke. Let’s face it, he’s no where near as good as we had hoped.

Said at the time the January window was a shocker as O’Neil’s first , the decision to part with th both Etebo had badou now looking horrific given the Allen injury which was a risk not worth taking again as said at the time unless we signed a decent replacement for one of them . It was very obvious out mifdfieid minus Allen was an accident waiting to,happen .

Under the past three managers? Precisely zero.
One thing Pulis did so well was signing others cast offs and reinvigorating them. Everyone we sign right now turns dogshit the moment they arrive.

Not the most recent but The Great Man. Not sure where it came from (presumably a recommendation from Harry) but that signing was genius. Literally transformed the team.

My memory is hazy but I don’t think TP had ever managed him before. We got him from Southampton (think Redknapp was previously manager there if I remember right). Think it was just a punt off a very glowing review from Harry. Edit: just googled and it appears Redknapp signed him for both Pompey and Southampton. Clearly a big fan of Ric!
