I don't know whether this will help others who are struggling but it worked for me.
All the following on a Dell laptop.
I got the email from Stoke with the redemption code on it, followed the link to the streaming site, put the code in, and it didn't work. So reading the small print I thought it might be the browser that my laptop was defaulting to (internet Explorer or Edge) not supporting the stream. So I 'cut' the web address from the search bar that it defaulted to and 'pasted' it into Google Chrome and using that browser it successfully accepted the redemption code.
I then went into my My Stoke account and logged in (tip: stay logged in and don't log out)
Click the Stoke badge on the top left corner and it takes you to the home page...
.. where you will find 'Match Centre' on the bottom left.
Click on that takes you to Match Live page (where it says Reading 0 0 Stoke)
Click the play icon and it gives you a test page. Hopefully you get the message that it has worked.
I did this on a laptop and have tried linking it to a smart TV with a HDMI cable either end and it works fine.
I have also tried it again using the link to the Stoke City website direct from the Oatcake site. The home page comes up andd if you stay logged in to your Stoke City + account click on Match Centre icon again and you are back in.

It’s probably some kind of bug to stop bots making multiple accounts and whatnot that they’ve not managed to get round.

I have just tried to redeem my code. It almost felt inevitable that it would not work. Code redeemed fine. Followed their instructions and got this:
"Sorry but you do not have any subscriptions
Please upgrade or read our faqs
If you think this is a mistake please contact stoketvsupport@streamamg.com"
Anybody solved this issue? Had a quick look through here and can't find any solutions to this particular issue. I have seen a few mentions about updating the app but I am on a desktop.

Just tried it now unilaterally and it’s worked. They may have resolved the issue but not told everyone yet. I recommend everyone having this issue to have a go at the following.
I signed in prior to redeeming code. (rather than redeeming and signing in, probably irrelevant but doing this verbatim)
Redeemed code
Finally got the success screen (no multiple account error)
Went to match centre
Watch live and tested screen.

I'm still an 'invalid customer' Given they're insisting we redeem the code before tomorrow I'll give them until the morning then request a refund as per the T&Cs. 6.2. All live video or audio technical issues and technical issues relating to accessing content and refund requests for a certain game must be emailed to stoketvsupport@streamamg.com during the match in question. Furthermore refunds will only be offered if you have proved to use our troubleshooting advice and support. If you do not take the time to troubleshoot or ignore emails and only request a refund without trying to fix the issue with our support team no refund will be issued.

So they appear to have fixed the issue where it would come up with an error after you've typed in the code. At least it now works for me.

Another fix that’s worked for me. Put the code in with first letter as a capital and the rest lower case. At last it worked!!! Thanks. After spending the past three days trying to fix this the above suggestion has actually worked. Why the club are emailing and texting redeem codes in block capitals when they're case-sensitive I'll never know.
