I see the far left taliban are continuing their efforts to transform Britain into a country of self hatred, anti-British sentiment, safe spaces, censorship, shit scared of offending anyone - while supporting barbaric behaviour from yobs and abuse of the police. Didn't the left used to be about freedom, fun and love? Its a movement that's badly lost its way. Thankfully the silent conservative majority still preside in this country. The Leftwaffe

I wouldn't mind this if I thought platforms were removing content because they actually believed it was racist. It's really about woke points though, and not wanting to be the target of attack of a very small but vocal group of people.
I also think it's a dangerous development as it makes some topics out of bounds for any discussion at all. All this will achieve is driving actual racists underground and out of reach.
I find it annoying that we no longer seem to be trusted to assess context. For example, yesterday morning Harry Enfield was on the Today programme. To illustrate how bad things used to be he mentioned a few of the names of performers that used to be used which included, the "Chocolate Coloured Coon" who was a character that perpetuated the myth of the negro happy to dance under the whip of his white master - a horrendous racist trope. It was very clear from the context that he was demonstrating things used to be really bad and you can't necessarily compare more recent examples of white people portraying black people to examples from 50+ years ago. Cue instant apology from Nick Robinson for the use of the word 'coon' and headlines in the papers that "Harry Enfield uses word c**n in defence of blackface". The journalist had obviously not listened to the interview or had wilfully misunderstood the context in order to write a shock headline. In short, it seems we can no longer be trusted to assess context or the intent behind the use of a word or piece of imagery. In the clip from not the nine o click news above, the butt of the joke is the stupid racist bent copper. In faulty towers, the butt of the joke is the stupid racist old major and the uptight Basil. But we're not to be trusted to make this assessment anymore.
George Carlin on context:

There are counselling hotlines attached to any show with "upsetting" scenes. It's as if "they" are covering their arse just in case somebody complains its pandering to the woke who are permanently offended.

I suspect that every time we have this sort of national scrutiny of TV programmes that are in dubious taste, and it does seem to happen quite frequently after some trigger event, this classic gets a mention. So we could have a rerun of a series of the "Black and White Minstrels" on BBC, and that would certainly shake up the voices of public outrage and contempt. The perceived indiscretions of shows such as Little Britain would pale into insignificence by comparison, and bring all the issues into much clearer focus.

I was scanning a few old family photos the other day and in one I was horrified to see that one of my brothers was holding his gollywog.
I have, of course, made him aware that I am going to report him to the appropriate authorities and that I hope he burns in hell when his time comes. He’s pleading that he was only about three when the photo was taken and was an innocent party to the hate crime so it should be my mum and dad who suffer the disgrace for buying it in the first place.
Fair point I think.
My father is already dead so the whole case and penalty must come down on my 90 years old mum but when confronted, she claimed that she hadn’t bought it but that it was one of our grannies, but can’t remember which. Obviously our grannies are well past dead so I suppose that my only hope is that they too have burned in hell as a consequence of their actions.
Having thought about it, I have now taken it upon myself to destroy all of our family photos and any other family memorabilia that I can lay my hands on just to prevent the truth getting out about my filthy, disgraceful racist background and mentally scarring my children and the future generations. I suggest you do the same.

Interestingly there was a BLM activist on the radio this morning saying how she thinks banning Fawlty Towers is absurd and that no one on the protests ever wanted this or would likely be offended by Basil Fawlty. She said that it's actually a pretty lazy response, typical of a big organisation panicking and wanting to be seen to do something, rather than thinking sensibly about how they might address any structural issues they may have. Anyhow, I shan't further interrupt this mass disasturbation orgy on what fascist cunts all the bloody lefties are. As you were

BBC use an edited copy where the "n" word was edited out in 2013 with the blessing of john cleese. Uktv stream the unedited version, from my understanding they are replacing it with the edited version the bbc use.

They'll be going after Blazing Saddles next...... I have a collection of 20 old 1930s John Wayne movies which would have the political correctness mob in apoplexy. But that is what is was like in the wild west, so are we to pretend it never happened and burn it all? Edit: "The hell I won't!" Just for context here... Are you really saying a) you know exactly what it was like, for everyone, in the period you describe as the Wild West. b) these John Wayne films are an accurate representation of life at the time? c) It’s a humble brag to let the Oatcake know your our foremost JW ITK. I’m going c. Final answer.

I could certainly be offended, not specifically by Basil, but certainly by the way the whole presentation of Fawlty Towers unflatteringly presents negative images of Torquay. Often the comments regarding the local life and amenities are disdainful. Guest: "I don't like the view." Basil: " That Madam, is Torquay" Torquay is of course a beautiful and welcoming town that is a bastion of white Conservative middle class affluence.

We are going mad. I have no time for racism but we are becoming over sensitive about some things that happened in the past. It's a good job many on here do not remember the Black and White Minstrel Show and Alf Garnet. There is too much looking backwards, we cannot change the past. They will be banning Dad's Army next if we are not careful.

At around the same time period that TBAWMS was on a Satdee tea time wasn’t there a jam(?) company and if you collected labels or some such they would send you golliwog items. I (if I didn’t dream all this) remember metal badges and I think there were other things.

The company behind all this was Robertson, Jam makers.
Just before World War I, John Robertson (son of James Robertson) was on a tour of the United States. Whilst on a visit to the backwoods he noticed many young children playing with little black rag dolls with white eyes, made from their mothers' discarded black skirts and white blouses. Intrigued by the popularity of the "Golly" (the name being the children's interpretation of doll), he thought it would make an ideal mascot and trade mark for the Robertson's range of products.
Accepted by the company, Golly was first shown on Robertson literature in 1910, on items such as labels and price lists.
Developed as a brooch-based collector series, by the early 1930s the Golly had appeared in little fruit designs, many of which were worn as jewellery because of their high quality. More sporting designs followed, including county cricketers and footballers with footballs in team colours. 1937 saw the Coronation Golly, complete with Union Jack on its chest.
The Robertson Golly was not only limited to badges. There were Robertson Golly dolls, ceramic, Golly games for children, and even Golly clothing. At the start of the 1980s the hard enamelled badges were replaced with cheaper to produce acrylic badges, but this did not affect their popularity.
When production stopped in 2001, over 20 million Gollies had been sent out.

The episode will be back online with a warning about the language or as an edited episode. I hope it's the former, as I don't see the n*gger/w*g comment as racist in the context - the joke is obviously on the Major. Not that it's particularly funny, but we're laughing at him. The scummy tabloids are doing a great job of increasing divisions between people as usual.
