I didn't give a fuck about this until Netflix removed an episode of It's always sunny in Philadelphia because of "blacking up".. raging.

OFAH and Porridge will be gone soon as there’s plenty of now outdated jokes about skin colour and sexuality. We’ll be left with Miranda and not much else. Christ what a depressing thought. I think I'll take my chances with the virus. If there were any trains running around here being under the wheels of one would be preferable.

Surely ‘Allo ‘ Allo has got to be put in the vault of shame for it’s blatant misrepresentation of our European friends . Clearly , I shall say this only once....!

It didn't exactly show the Brits as the Brains Trust- and guess what, no offence was taken (mind you, I was too busy trying to keep my underpant elastic under control when Vicki Michelle was on) 😂

Was a warning before the episode where Dick Byrne and Rugged Island were black faced for the talent show last time I saw it. I don't care so long as I can have a go at the Greeks! They're the ones who invented gayness!

I didn't give a fuck about this until Netflix removed an episode of It's always sunny in Philadelphia because of "blacking up".. raging. That's one of the most un-PC comedies going. One of the funniest episodes I've seen was where one of them pretended to have cancer or be disabled (maybe both). I'm disappointed Always Sunny has never been released on DVD in the UK (other than series 1 and 2) and have no idea why it isn't more well known. I haven't seen (or don't remember) a blacking up Always Sunny episode, but I imagine it could have been as tasteless as a lot of the comedy is in that show, though making fun of the ridiculousness of it rather than actually being racist. The age ratings/content warnings should be enough. I don't know how I feel about non-black people playing black characters or blacking up for comedic reasons, as there must be a line that shouldn't be crossed. Blackface historically has been incredibly racist and was used for mocking and demeaning black people. That I'm very much against. A white cosplayer was banned from cosplay competitions last year for entering as a black person. How is the following racist? http://instagr.am/p/B3FLcSbop6H Then you get impressionists who play all sorts of characters, whatever the skin colour. Attempting to look like them (at least to some extent) is part of it. Like Harry Enfield playing Nelson Mandela as a drug dealer, which to me is making a mockery of the "black people are drug dealers" stereotype. Is it not raising awareness to the ridiculousness of it all rather than perpetuating stereotypes? I'm all for what Black Lives Matter means, that black lives haven't mattered for so long, and it's long overdue some massive changes were made to ensure it's not a disadvantage to be born black. It's really sad if the historical context of blackface means the cosplay and Harry Enfield examples I mentioned are racist. The current Canadian PM blacked up a few times in his youth too, and while I wouldn't condone that, I doubt he's more racist than Trump.
