As always I've listened to Radio 4 all today, as the least worst option. All day long they've been telling me what a racist I am, based on my race.

Tony Livesey. Yeah, I like him too. Listen to Nicky Campbell Breakfast on the (now rare) drive to work, Tony Livesey on the way home. The golden jewel for me, though, is Mayo & Kermode doing their film thingy. Pretty much everything else I've caught on 5live has been drivel tbh.
On the Mayo and Kermode slot I play a little game to myself and guess when they :- A...Mention The Exorcist. B... Use the word " Genre" C... Use the word " Narrative" B & C is usually within 20 mins, though these days they rarely mention The Exorcist, as they get pelters for it... Mark earned his PhD in English at the University of Manchester in 1991, writing a thesis on horror fiction, and a study of the Exorcist was a big part of that. The film seems to play a big part in his life.

They have been totalshit for a long time its been the only radio station I've listened to . The guy Nihal in the afternoon is appalling I end up listening to radio 4 now Ive warmed a bit to Nihal, though I am 180deg opposite to everything he says, he does put up a balanced and well presented argument. But the 2 twats on a Friday, just WTF are they on about...It's not radio, it's just 2 mates having a natter...Total dross. And dont even start me on Robbie Savage.... Cant be doing with nihals bleeding hearts phone ins typically someone who was bullied at school for being fat , ginger or spotty And how it ruined their life

He’s easier to listen to then most, fridays is a dead for five live. Chile’s show is utter horse shit, them pair on the film stuff kermode and mayo are bloody painful. The anti brexit agenda and constant Cummings drivel is making think of going back to see what arsenal are up to on talksport... then again.

Loved Micky Clarke as well at 5am 😉Weekdays. He's recently retired Hold the presses! Micky actually hasn't , he's been relegated to the graveyard of local radio, very occasionally appears on radio Shropshire breakfast (I only listen for the traffic and weather , honest guv...!) . Wake Up To Money was as cracker too , well remembered Still have Mickey on the odd time, but had heard he was pushed out in the same way as some of the older voices. No idea of the truth in that one though, and thr early starts must be brutal. Mark Pougatch another apparently forced out, though he's well employed elsewhere and I can take or leave him. The biggest loss was the Sunday morning sports show with Steve Richardson followed by Pienaar's politics, with 5 Live Report with Adrian Goldberg (who I hope is still around) in there somewhere. Replacing that with Laura Whitmore is objectively a dumbing down of a channel that wasn't particularly cerebral to start off with. I can't abide Nicky Campbell or Tony Livesey, but appreciate they've got something about them, and Kermode and Mayo aren't for me, but I can see why they're popular. The self-consciously blokey banter-by-numbers football coverage makes my skin crawl.

If you think 5 Live is bad these days, but still haven’t listened to “The Squad” then trust me that will take it to a whole new level my friend.....

Not that I liked Pienaar's Politics, but definitely dumbed down on a Sunday morning and into the afternoon with the midday football programme. I'd forgotten about the 9am sports show, but it was good and had many good interviews. I didn't used to like Nicky Campbell, Adrian Chiles or Richard Bacon, but I've grown to like and respect them all as good broadcasters on 5Live. Rachel Burden is good too. As is Stephen Nolan, and Dotin Adebayo if I'm up in the early hours. The station has been getting worse since well before COVID though, and whether we like individual presenters or not, the consensus in the thread is that 5Live is getting worse! :/

I'm not sure if it is worse! I remember when it launched in 1990, as Radio 5, becoming 5 live a few years later. When it started the brief was a mix of news, sport and education. If you listened in the morning about 8.00 you got a 6 minute daily edition of a Kids storyline feature titled "The Poddington Peas"
I say no more.

The relentless jingles and ads for BBC content are so intrusive they made the switch to LBC easier, as although it's ads are a pain in the arse it's a commercial broadcaster so comes with the territory. I also like the late night content, but could be drifting to sleep to it when an ad for Formula One comes on at full volume.
