5lives wet dream listener is white, has an office job in the city, lives in the Home Counties, and hates Dominic Cummings, In my job I listen to five live most the day as I gave up on talk sport some time ago, they started talking about arsenal and the top four about ten years ago and have not drew a breath yet...five live has become really hard work to listen, the anti brexit agenda Gets drilled into you daily. I can’t listen to music stations so I have my ‘talk’ stations all day.. Nihal is good, Drive is ok.. steak clear of breakfast and Emma barnet

Im not sure that 5 Live can be criticized too much for current formats, as the lockdown measures have severeley hit their schedules and presenation options, especially of course with the lack of sport. For a channel that is 70% about sports this is a problem. As a result they have had to fill in with phone in contributions from listeners, usually about coronavirus issues, and lots of contrived rehashing of old material and sports coverage. Surprisingly during the lockdown there were no regular travel bulletins, which take up quite a lot of their air time.
Things will probably change quite quickly again now.

Listen to Nicky Campbell Breakfast on the (now rare) drive to work, Tony Livesey on the way home.
The golden jewel for me, though, is Mayo & Kermode doing their film thingy. Pretty much everything else I've caught on 5live has been drivel tbh.

If you add Adrian Chiles, when he's on, and that's about the limit of stuff that's worth listening to.

I've wondered what's happened to 5Live too. It's like they're trying to turn it into Radio 1. somersetstokie makes a good point about the current situation, but I think it was declining before then. The Sunday midday football show used to be good but became pretty childish a while ago. It still has a lot of good broadcasters, including people I didn't used to like so much when they were on TV.

Ten years ago it used to be quite good.
Monday night club. Fighting Talk, Pienaar’s Politics and whatever show Jeff Randall used to do was interesting (about subjects that I didn’t know much about at the time).
No idea if it’s got better or worse since then.
The generic News/Phone in programmes were pretty shit but tolerable if you just wanted to get last nights nogger results before you went to work (pre ubiquitous smart phone days).
There’s enough good audio content in podcasts that live radio (apart from sport) doesn’t really do it for me any more. To be fair, a lot of that good stuff does come from the BBC.

They've made a deliberate editorial choice to chase the yoof listenership alright. And in potentially gaining some of them (not enough, as they'll not listen to live radio in any great numbers and it's a crowded market for their attention) they'll lose the rest of us. The likes of Cornelious Lysett (gone) and Steve Bunce (not heard, so hope he's staying) are what make the channel worth listening to. I graduated to R4 years ago as I can't stand the relentless jingles and programme trailers. Flick between R4 and LBC mostly now.

Used to love Peter Allen on the drive home show but once he went I moved to Radio 4. Used to have great rapport with the financial guy Mickey Clarke who'd always greet him with a hearty London "Allo Pederr" was a highlight of my day lol if anyone remembers that.

Like most BBC radio the demographic it is trying to appeal to has changed in the last two years.
5Live is still ok, in the morning but the afternoon person is so dull. Livsey can be entertaining from 4-7.
I now only really listen to saturday afternoon when 'Question of Sport' can be entertaining then Colin Murray and Prof Smith give a good convid19 info show, which is not ruined by left wing opinionated contributors. This will end when the PL returns these shows go.

Peter Allen was great. Mickey Clarke's another one they're binning for a younger model. Both big losses. Wake Up to Money was a light at the end of an insomniac tunnel for me for many years.

Micky actually hasn't , he's been relegated to the graveyard of local radio, very occasionally appears on radio Shropshire breakfast (I only listen for the traffic and weather , honest guv...!) . Wake Up To Money was as cracker too , well remembered

But the 2 twats on a Friday, just WTF are they on about...It's not radio, it's just 2 mates having a natter...Total dross. And dont even start me on Robbie Savage....

On the Mayo and Kermode slot I play a little game to myself and guess when they :- A...Mention The Exorcist. B... Use the word " Genre" C... Use the word " Narrative" B & C is usually within 20 mins, though these days they rarely mention The Exorcist, as they get pelters for it...
