I can't possibly suffer through that teenage lad banter, radio 1 bullshit.
I'd like to hear Crouch sit and have a chat with Pulis, hear anecdotes and his opinions and that. I'm halfway through and it's just Tom Fordyce and Chris Stark, whoever the fuck they even are, talking absolute bobbins.

I haven't listened, but The Sentinel have written up some of it today: www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-arsenal-tony-pulis-4155411I did enjoy this bit: "Patrick Vieira told me, 'We used to hate going to Stoke. You were the only club that Wenger actually talked about and worked on before. We just couldn't beat you.'
"Wenger came one year and complained about the grass being too long. He wrote a letter to the FA. The referees and the linesmen had to come and measure the grass. I know he talked about banning throw-ins and saying they shouldn't be allowed. That was all music to our ears."

It's a 30 minute long podcast and 10 of it is them trying to advertise some fucking art gallery they're creating of Roy Keane selfies. I'm losing braincells listening to this and frankly I don't have much room for manoeuvre in that area as it is.

We used to give anyone a hard time but the real championship challengers would just turn up and play their normal game and generally get a result.

I have been going to Stoke off and on since the sixties but one of the best things I will remember was when virtualy the entire crowd were doing the “Wenger”.
I don’t think the directors box joined in 🤪

This may not be news to many but below is what I took from it:
Naked headbutt gate definitely happened with the slight amendment that the party wasn't cancelled the issue was around the length of time, 1 vs 2 days. Woodgate was very grateful to hauled off at Wolves after that right back performance. We didn't know that Rory could throw the ball when we signed him, I can only assume his collective left wing skills were the main pull. I joke and feel mean writing this and assume it will be we knew Darel wanted to go back to Norwich. TP unashamedly didn't treat players as equals and had favourites.

Never quite sure whether he is feigning lack of knowledge so as to make the podcasts he appears on accessible, or whether he is a complete chancer. Judging by the cycling podcast the beeb puts out I think it is just a case of trying to be as inclusive as possible as they dumb the sport down to a ridiculous amount as if 90% of the audience are tuning in to find out about some British guy they are vaguely aware of.

This does fit with some other stuff on Crouch's podcast. He tells the story of when Delap was bombarding Spurs' defense and made Gomes cry. That was years before Crouch signed for Stoke! (and no, he wasn't telling it from a Spurs perspective. He was talking about how much they (him, Huth, Shawcross, etc) used to bully defenses on set pieces and used that as his example)

Maybe he was just using the ‘royal we’ as In Stoke, not necessarily meaning that he was involved.

I find the whole thing a bit cringy and small time now. Almost as if we had no right to be in the top flight. I come from an era where we expected to be in the top league and be very competitive playing good football with quality players.
If we get another shot at it, I hope our next premier league “identity” carries a bit more swagger whilst keeping some of the grit and defensive steel we had before.

I know at one point the eventual Champions had never lost at Stoke! Don't know if that continued until we were relegated. Arse had lost most games before kick off! You have to put a lot of that down to Wenger!

The episode probably had legendary status in the Stoke changing room, and as a player coming in and adopting the DNA it just becomes part of the canon of little triumphs "we" had as a group. The Vieira thing is weird though. Could've been that Vieira was still in touch with people at Arsenal and was speaking as an Arsenal rep/fan rather than as a member of the team. Or Crouchy's just a bit of a chinny reck-on. edit oh it was Pulis that said it! Well he is a massive bullshitter, makes more sense now

It's interesting to compare and contrast the attitude of Wenger, with say,Scolari when Chelsea manager,to the prospect of playing at The Brit.

I still miss it! Those games with that intensity, and it was us against them! I loved being the underdog coming out on top! The best time for me as a supporter of this club, it really was! I really hope we will experience this again soon!

I really hope we will experience this again soon! :)) Totally agree. The first few years in the prem had a real 'them and us' vibe - a 'no guts, no glory - fuck em all, attitude'. The Boothen was rocking in those days. I dont think we will ever experience anything like it again. Both the game and attitudes have moved on, and not for the better...... Sad really. See my strap line thingy, below. Taken from a press article at the time - sums it up.

Didn't Vieira play against us for Man City and kick Whelan in the bollocks - midweek cup tie I think?

It’s a bit weird how footballers are so bad with footballing events. Only thing I can assume is that he’s using the ‘we’ as Arsenal are probably his team.

The football ‘banter’ is a bit tiresome IMO like one or two others have said. The thing about ‘Crouchy’ is...... a mate was getting married, I posted a card to bet365 stadium for him to sign (my mate was a fan you see) No reply, I contacted the club, they said all requests like that go into the players’ pigeon holes at the club then it’s up to the players whether they sign + return or not. There was a S.A.E. enclosed so it wouldn’t have cost him a penny. Anyway to secure the signature I took another card + request + SAE ..... still no response, thanks mate!!

No, it was a perfectly good’un .... and the second one too .... finally I wrote in and the club must have perceived it as a complaint because manager (at the time) Lambert wrote quite a decent letter to be fair. I think the thing about Crouchy and other players/managers who constantly move from club to club (Harry Redknapp springs to mind) is that they’ll literally just chase the money and any fans who think those guys are ‘in love’ with whichever club they’re contracted to, I think you’re deluded sorry. (As long as a contracted player puts 100% effort in that’s good enough for me) But I think players who genuinely care about the plight of ordinary fans of their contracted club, I’d say they’re in the minority, unless it’s the town/city where they grew up and then - obviously - there will be that emotional connection. (IMO)
