...and still she will get crucified in the press for her salary. At least she's spending some of it in the right way!

Whilst any donations are very welcome
Let's calm down this is 3% of what she paid herself last year
When you are obscenely whealthy this will not be noticed
If she had given half her years earnings that would be a magnanimous gesture.
I am pleased she has donated but it is easy to be charitable when you get over 200 million per year!

Really pleased to see this and if the media do pick this up I hope they ask what are the likes of Phillip Green, Branson, Mike Ashley and all the othe tax dodging greedy twats are going to do for their country now we are in real need? Furloughing all their staff to maximise their personal wealth. A special mention for a very special prick Philip Day who owns Edinburgh Woolen Mill, Peacocks and Pondant along with a couple more businesses. This billionaire who lives mostly in Dubai (for obvious reasons) sacked all his staff who had been with the company for less than two years and furloughed the rest. This is the same man that has not given his staff a pay rise or paid out a bonus in 6 years. Well done Denise and co, you could teach some of these people a thing or two in humanity and humility. H

Hospitals have to be careful what they receive in charitable donations as it can effect their budgets. Potentially this was all she could give without the hospital being penalised

I am pleased she has donated but it is easy to be charitable when you get over 200 million per year! Three points: First, nearly half of what she paid herself went in tax - and she could have reduced her tax bill by organising her finances differently, but chose not to do so. Second, you'd have a point if this was the only charitable donation she has made - in fact, long before this latest big donation, she has a great record of supporting charities. Save your comment for those super rich people who DON'T contribute significant amounts to charity rather than those who do. Finally, give your head a wobble about your comment that "this will not be noticed." I bet it will be noticed by the hospital she has chosen to support. The NHS consumes huge amounts of money but £10 million will make a huge difference to one local hospital and its patients will notice the benefit for years to come.

She's not some tax dodging Branson holding hands out for taxpayers money bail out. ffs.

Furloughing all their staff to maximise their personal wealth. Companies should be means tested before they can claim! Unlike the banking crisis this time bail outs must be accompanied with strict conditions on directors and share holder pay outs and employee conditions.

She supposedly had tax liabilities of 276M last year (highest in the country), nearly double the next person in 2nd and allegedly more than Amazon, for example, have contributed to this country in 20 years.
Think about that next time your clicking on the order button for your latest, cheap pile of crap from one of their sweat shops, I mean distribution centres...

It's quite simple really, I hope people change their spending patterns. Someone part of our family has resigned from Amazon recently as a result of their disgusting approach towards staff safety with regards to the virus. He was quite a well regarded AI interface manager too. I can only hope they either change course or our surrendering habits and their employees make an example of them Well after this is over I shall where possible buy British buy local even if it does cost a bit more And don't forget to BET365! I hope she has some control on how it's spent but doubt she will, anyway, brilliant!

Goes against the current narrative that gambling is bad, it's the working class who need to be saved from themselves, but stocks and shares are fine, our betters know what they are doing and would never take stupid risks with theirs and our money.

I have the misfortune of having to deal with them in a work capacity from time to time and have seen first hand their working practices both at head office and in their distribution network......

The Coates family are the acceptable face of capitalism. This latest charitable donation to our local NHS is one of many ways they have shown they care about people as well as their own welfare. No other owners of football clubs have looked after their supporters as they have, such as the price of season tickets frozen for a decade and free away travel.
They happen to run a business, gambling, that, if run well, can't fail. I know that gambling can create a moral dilemma with some people but if they didn't do it then someone else would soon fill the vacuum of them not being there. So, for that reason I can live with the moral dilemma even though I don't gamble. And while they're doing this they're creating thousands of jobs for local people. Add to that that they contribute massively in taxes and don't try to evade them like some capitalists do; throw in their philanthropic outlook, and they're the perfect example of how extremely wealthy people can add to a good and decent society.
So well done Denise.
OS.
