This is the problem Labour has, no heavyweights on the front bench. Compare and contrast that with the New Labour set up. I saw a photo of the main characters the other day and their names sprang instantly to mind...Robin Cook, Jack Straw, Brown, etc etc. With the exception of Ashworth and Rayner, the rest are nowhere. Plus, Tory govt ministers are rarely off the tv as a result of the pandemic, so it's inevitable that they become the names and faces that everyone knows. I think you're being too kind to Raynor and Ashworth. I heard Yvette Cooper's name mentioned the other day and although I don't like her views that much, she's a colossus compared the anyone in the Shadow Cabinet right now. I probably am! They're the only two who sprang to my mind as someone interested in politics, so not surprising that the majority don't know any of them and many people don't even know who Kier Starmer is apparently!

Want to know what the modern labour party is all about?
The last five minutes of this video tells you all you need to know why they're completely irrelevant to the vast majority of this country. They're literally insane and beyond help. Jump to 11.40 to avoid the waffle.

They're literally insane and beyond help. Jump to 11.40 to avoid the waffle. What's the point of using footage of an old Labour Party Conference to show Labour have learned nothing? All of this footage must've been at least before the 2019 election as the background slogan is For The Many Not The Few. So when that conference was being held, what were they supposed to have learned from? Their 2017 election performance was all right (not great, not appalling).

I'd give Angela Raynor one.
But then I would give Liz Truss one as well.
My political leanings are all over the place at the moment.

If the Tories acted with integrity these stories would be ten a penny.

Labour has suspended Unite's assistant general secretary from the party after he tweeted that Home Secretary Priti Patel "should be deported". www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-57109007Politics aside, do you think he meant she "should be deported" because of her Asian heritage, or because he believes Patel and the Home Office are "institutionally racist?" It was an ill thought out tweet and he rightly apologised, you're right about the mess though as this will be used in the ongoing factional war in the Labour Party. Racism should be called out and dealt with because it is racist and offensive, not as part of a plan to get rid of an individual who's views don't align with yours that's my challenge with this (and many other examples such as this)........

Only thing left (no pun intended) for Labour is to wait for Boris to fuc up brexit and break up the union .Then Andy B will swoop in from Manc and the tory nightmare will be over for a generation.

He's on the NEC is he that thick that he doesn't know that sort of language is a) unacceptable and b) it's going to cause serious embarrassment for the Labour Party. Is it not common or garden racism? Starmer has yet to deal with it. It's parked with a suspension. He still has to deal with Corbyn.

I doubt he was being racist it's just such a stupid thing to say given Patel's Asian heritage. What surprises me though is the difference in treatment of Patel and Abbott is wafer thin yet one was constantly called out as racist and the other not.

His point may have been along the lines of 'immigrants are more use to the country than Conservative politicians', but to word it in that way was a mistake. Without knowing much about the guy, I would say that at worse it's racist and at best it's stupid. You're correct it is not dealt with yet. It's possible that they'll investigate it and never release the results (ring any bells?), so we should wait and see.

Another gaping open goal gloriously missed by Skeir She’s conflating Israel and Jews yet again...... Sure, I'm not really on about the ins and outs of that. Just, given the recent history of the party, Starmer's complete failure to avoid breathing a bit of life back into that line of attack by just trotting out a condemnation of the violence on both sides like any other statesperson who's taken International Politics 101...

Do you think it's something that will win back 'The Red Wall'? I personally think the Internationalism is important as is an ethical foreign policy. Whilst it’s not a vote winner per se I think it’s a bit patronising to suggest that people in council houses or from “the red wall” don’t care about injustice in Palestine or wherever. You only have to look at the acts of solidarity over the years from the working classes towards people from all corners of the globe. It’s not particularly difficult to focus on domestic and foreign issues side by side.......
