It’s nice that one of the cabinet has some actual experience in the role he is supposed to oversee. I always feel like it’s incredibly disappointing that the cronyism in politics ensures that all the main politicians get random positions in the cabinet despite having no clue about what they are supposed to oversee.

Thatcher was the daughter of a greengrocer wasnt she? Good shout. Thatcher’s father was a methodist vicar wasn’t he? But Thatcher and Starmer are not from that dissimilar backgrounds. And both right wing

Or a Drugs Minister that can't discuss the world's most widely used illegal drug because her husband is in charge of growing and exporting more of it than anyone else in the world 🤦😂

Yes there’s been some classics…..Kwasi Kwarteng as chancellor, Liz Truss as overseas business & trade minister, Theresa Coffey as deputy pm to name a few recent ones.

Streeting has arranged talks with junior doctors next week. Excellent. He said it would be the first thing he would do. And he is doing what he said.

More women in this cabinet than ever before. But I thought Labour were anti-women!? Also the most state educated cabinet in history.

I wish you clowns on the right would make your minds up One minute he's as left-wing as Corbyn, the next he's a scumbag centrist, then he's a Tory with a red tie. Could it actually be that you know fuck all about anything and are just desperately scratching around for any mud to throw in the hope that some might stick? Why don't you just wait and see what this government does and make an assessment based on that?

The only thing I will say is doesn’t Labour’s manifesto pledge to boost prison capacity by another 20,000? (I’ve not got it to hand so happy to be corrected). This goes against Timson’s belief that the prison population for non-violent offenders should be reduced (which I agree with)

This goes against Timson’s belief that the prison population for non-violent offenders should be reduced (which I agree with) I don’t know if their manifesto says that, but right now, we undoubtedly need more prison space. That is super urgent. The first thing on the new Justice Secretary’s to do list. If they then go on to change sentencing laws etc then fine, but with the backlog of cases and fact the tories were letting out prisoners early due to over crowding, more space is urgently needed. It is a public service and so it has suffered from appalling under funding for 14 years. So it needs big investment and changes to make it function again. It was true a few years ago but I am not sure about now, that the Justice department had had its budget cut by a higher percentage than any other since 2010. No wonder it is a total mess.

Frankly, it does come across as clownish when between you all, Starmer is, variously, a radical socialist, a centrist and a Tory 😄 It just makes you look silly and with little or no political knowledge or awareness.

He's bang on the money, but those offenders that deserve serious time who then end up serving half their sentence should serve 80% as a minimum, and for violent crime nothing less than the full term.

I agree with him. Prisons should only be for dangers to society. Community service and fines should be more commonplace. Prisons do little for petty crimes. Community service may at least help someone.
