Anyone else have a piece of JH Lynch art on their walls in the 70s, or now? One of the most popular artists of all time , in terms of mass produced prints sold. Tina is the most famous, and was the subject of Edwyn Collins 'Never Met a Girl Like You before', as well as a fashion collection by Stella McCartney. 3 or 4 Lynch prints can be seen in A Clockwork Orange The family across the road had a 6ft Nymph on the wall and i was transfixed Up there with Tretchikoff as cult kitsch collectibles Attachment Deleted

No originals are thought to survive as the artist destroyed them all shortly before he died, possibly because he didnt feel his talents as an artist had been recognised (despite astronomical sales) Not much is known about him. Here's Tina

The one I always remember was a woman in a red dress with her knockers out ( Can I say knockers on here?) . I still watch Robin Askwith films. For some reason was always my favourite. They used to sell them in Dunne's Stores in Ireland I remember along with the Crying Boy by an Italian fella and that stupid myth that went with it and woman carrying pot ( Not its real title at a guess)

They used to sell them in Dunne's Stores in Ireland I remember along with the Crying Boy by an Italian fella and that stupid myth that went with it and woman carrying pot ( Not its real title at a guess) Im sure you can say knockers on here, its a great word and almost period drama language now from shows like Les Dawson and Benny Hill (soon to realised as culturally significant to the development of Britain in the 1970s) Parallel to the work of JH Lynch and Tretchikoff was the taste for crying children, to many modern eyes horribly kitsch. Like a lot of things, there is a huge market for it now. You cant go into a Coffee shop in Cardiff these days without seeing a Lynch, Shabner, tretchikoff and a few crying children on the walls. One of the first and still the most sought after is Crying Boy by Bragolin -probably the Italian artist you thought of. There were many, many variants. In the 1980s or 1990s there was an urban myth doing the round concerning the "Curse of The Crying Boy". The Fire Brigade, so the legend goes, used to find copies of TCB unscathed amidst the ruins of house fires -with many people testifying that the fire was started after recently acquiring said painting. Incredible to think now, but many people had mass crying boy paintings burnings and destructions

Was the same with Stone Buddha statues, they simply wouldn't burn and as a kid it was unheard of to have one in your house where we were as was guaranteed God would punish you and burn down your house leaving only Buddha remaining.
